This is a vintage Shakespeare Superior 1962 Model 32 jeweled. Level-wind, casting reel made in Kalamazoo, Michigan. This steel reel is in excellent condition with nice engraved scroll work on both sides. The clicker is sound and the level wind moves easily. Please let me know if you have any questions or concerns. Vintage SHAKESPEARE 'Superior 1962' Model 3L Casting Reel for PARTS
Up for bid is one vintage casting reel for PARTS manufactured by Shakespeare" Superior 1962" Model No. 3L. LEVEL WINDING CASTING REEL. This reel is in poor condition and missing parts. It measures 2-3/16" diameter, 3-7/8" deep including the handle, and has a foot measuring 2-1/2" long by 9/16" wide. On the bottom of the foot it has"MADE IN U.S.A. PATENTED" It has a 4:1 geared multiplier. The handle has a plastic knob and a missing knob that appears to have a broken screw remaining. It has a clicker controlled by a sliding button on the rear plate, and a rotating levered wheel on the front plate rim that controls the anti-back-lash/drag. Both the clicker and drag work. The level wind screw does not work, and the level wind mechanism is missing. The crank side is engraved with"Shakespeare, Superior ... more1962, Kalamazoo" and still on the front cover near the bottom it is engraved with"MODEL 3L" The metal shows no brass, so it may be German-Silver(see photos) The rear plate, front cover, and handle are engraved with a decorative design. The reel is missing the line guide mechanism, rear jeweled bearing cap has chipped jewel, from cap has broken jewel, and is being sold for parts. The reel predates the 2 letter code used to date Shakespeare reels that started in 1931. It weighs 8.5 ounces, with packaging it will ship below 1 pound. This reel has two jeweled endcaps and runs very smoothly. Besides some brassing and a few scratches, this is a great example of an almost 100 yr old reel. This was bought at an auction and came in a Sears Mohawk Level Winding Casting Reel Box No. 3111 which is included in this auction. The box is in worn condition with tears along the edges of the paper covering. There is dirt and stains on the box. Comes with a parts listing for the Mohawk. MARKINGS ON THE REEL: The head plate reads: Superior 1906 by Shakespeare Model ED. Foot plate marked: Made in U.S.A. The ED model code indicates the reel was made in 1967. RE EL CONDITION: Plates measure 2-3/16" in diameter. Pillars are 1-7/8" wide. THIS WAS FULLY TESTED AND WORKS AS DESIGNED! This is all-original as found. The clicker works in both positions. Handle and spool spin free and easy. The level ... morewind line guide travels back and forth as designed. Both plates have minimal paint loss. Both wooden handle knobs are in good condition. Vintage Superior 1906 fishing reel. Model ED by Shakespeare. Stamped"made in the USA. Rare copper color with ivory-colored knobs. I got this from an estate sale, and frankly, I don't know anything about fishing reels. I got this one from an estate auction. but it seems to be working just fine.
