SHAKESPEARE 1914"Uncle Sam" 100 Yard Casting Reel Up for your consideration is this c.1914 W.S. JR. CO. SHAKESPEARE"UNCLE SAM" 100 YD CASTING REEL 23037. This reel WORKS and is mechanically sound having all parts fully inspected. The reel comes from our own personal collection. REEL MARKINGS: The head plate reads: Shakespeare 23037. The tail plate reads: Uncle Sam. The foot plate reads: 1914 Model Patented 100 Yards W.S. JR. CO. Kalamazoo. Mi. The age is known to be from 1914 as indicated by the 1914 Model code. UNCLE SAM" REEL CONDITION: The plates measure aprox. 2" in diameter. The pillars are aprox. 1-7/8" wide. The clicker works and sounds off as designed. The handle and spool spin free and easy with the clicker in the off position. Shakespeare always advertised. Built like a Watch" This one still ... moreis, as the reel clicks and purrs like a little kitten! With click off the spool is Free Wheeling. It would appear over the years the reel has lost some, much of it's plating as one can see the yellowish tint and the Brass showing. A few small scattered nicks are seen on both plates. Note the small nicks around the edges of the tail plate. The reel is just shy of 100 years old! Classic Pflueger Buckeye NLW Casting Reel Counterbalanced Handle 60 Yd. Bulldog
This vintage reel is in very good condition mechanically. Very good minus cosmetically with some pitting to the aluminum spool and plating wear on the rim of the head plate. The head plate has the iconic bulldog trade mark image. The head plate also has a friction drag button and an on/off click button. The counterbalanced crank has an ivoroid handle. The tail plate is stamped"PATENTED/JAN. 23,1907/APR. 3,1923" The bottom of the foot is stamped"60" Diameter of the reel is 2" width of spool 1 3/4" The spool is partially filled with a black braided line of unknown test, could work as backing.

This little vntage raised pillar reel is in very good condition. The Hendryx name on the top of the foot is worn but readable. But the patent dates on the other end of the foot are illegible. There is a strong on/off click button on the tail plate and a friction drag button on the head plate. The counterbalanced handle has a bakelite knob. Classic Nickel Plated Brass Raised Pillar Pennell Casting Reel 60 Yd. Fishing
An interesting reel. Pennell was a trademark of the Edw. K. Tryon company of Philadelphia. They had sporting goods made under their trademark by many manufacturers. This reel has a Pflueger foot. No Pennell markings on the head plate. The top of the foot is marked"THE PENNELL" on one side and"REGISTERED/PAT? on the other in the manner of Hendryx. The tail plate has both a friction drag slide button and an on/off click button. Both working well. The straight counterbalanced crank handle has a black bakelite knob. The bottom of the foot is stamped"60" Diameter of the reel is 1 3/4" width of spool 1 1/4" Overall condition is very good, could use a good cleaning.

Classic Hendryx Double Action Raised Pillar 200 Yd. Casting Reel By Winchester
After Winchester bought Hendryx they underlined the yardage numbers on the bottom of the foot. This reel appears to be the same as the Winchester 2744 heavy fishing and trolling reel labelled under the old Hendryx name. It is in very good condition. Nickel plated brass, some discoloration and minor plating loss on the foot. The tail plate has a strong on/off click button and a friction drag button. The head plate is stamped"HENDRYX/MADE IN U.S.A. You are bidding on a v intage V.L. A. Peerless Casting Reel. Jeweled, 60 yd. likely made by Montague. Most of Montague's business was making reels for other companies like Von Lengerke& Antoine(V.L. A. and other dealers. Found no information on-line about the Peerless model. So this may be a rare piece? I don't know the age of this reel which came from the estate of a family friend. Reel style and lettering on the head plate suggest that it's pretty old- maybe mid-20 th century? Please Note: Photos are an integral part of item description. Utilizing the British Pound symbol as a Trademark. The"STERLING" is a nice 60 yard USA made reel with no missing parts, good click, double handle with wood grips. Measures 2 in. dia and has 1 5/8 in. spool. Nice coin edge on sideplates, Clean little reel ready for polishing if desired.
