Rare Antique Handmade Birchbark Wooden Fishing Creel
For sale we have an exceptional example of a Very Early Handmade Birch Fishing Creel. This piece is made entirely out of birch bark branches cut to size and is primitively nailed together. You can still see some of the actual white birch bark on the lid and several of the side pieces. Notice the round twig that is the outer edge of the hole on the top.awesome! The inside has a piece of what appears to be bamboo around the inner lid edge. It has obviously had several repairs but this is a very old piece of fishing gear possibly from the mid to late 19th century. I have never seen anything like it! It measures 10.5" tall. 15" long and 11" wide. This is an extremely rare piece.

Up for auction is a very nice split willow and leather fishing creel from early 1900's. The only real issue I see with this piece is the leather closure strap is broke. Although it is present and will be included for possible repair. Otherwise the basket is tight with little to no damage. The leather on the rest of the creel looks to be in very good condition as well. Slight discoloration inside on the bottom which just gives it credibility. Good luck.

This creel came from the collection of a wealthy sportsman's private game ranch home/cabin. This is a wonderful pre-owned vintage fishing creel. It appears to be very old and has definitely seen better days. The bottom portions of the basket are very sound. The lid is more aged and shows some breakage of weave. But for its age is rather good. Please see pictures. The latch is missing. The leather strap is included but is very weak and broken in a few pieces. It was in and comes from a smoke free home. This auction features a Vintage Wicker with Leather trim Fishing Creel. I don't know the age of this basket. Looks to be fairly old to me. The basket is primarily wicker with leather trim and a canvas shoulder strap. The shoulder strap does not connect to one side, bit is present. The leather does have some dark marks and is cracked in several places. Please check out the photos. The buckle over the top will not hold since leather can been cut short. The top wants to stay open but I think can be trained to stay closed again. The handle has significant wear and the leather has worn off in spots. Attractive antique fishing creel owned by my father and dating to late 1920's early l930's as far as I can determine. It appears to be tightly woven willow and is light tan in color with some fading. The strap is leather and canvas fabric. It has a leather and metal latch which has its tip portion reglued. Size approximately 9 inches high at back x 7 inches in front. Basket width approx. 14 inches and depth is 5 inches. The basket is in nice condition with minimal defects to the willow mostly where the lid attaches to basket(some repair) Kept in a clean, smoke free home and not exposed to dirt. The creel is not maker marked but judging from the style. Materials and craftsmanship it most likely dates to the last quarter of the 19th century to the first quarter of the 20th century. The creel is entirely hand made and the condition is very nice and especially so when considering the material and the age. Dating to the 1920's-1930's time period. There was no strap found with this older fishing creel. But that is easily replaced, if so desired. Antique Split Willow Fishing Creel Basket Leather Hinges
This antiques fishing creel has a dark patina that has come from years of use. It is a fine tightly-weaved split-willow basket fastened to an interestingly shaped bottom. The back side of the bottom has a nice curve to it. It measures 11" wide x 7.5" deep x 9" high.The hinges and the closure are both leather. The closure works like this: the leather strap goes over a wire loop and then the clip fastens through the loop. This is a primitive arrangement but I cannot see that there ever was any other closure. It has one break in one piece of the willow on the top edge of one side as shown in the pictures. It in no way diminishes the looks of this creel. This would make a wonderful decorating piece filled with flowers. Dishtowels, wash cloths, etc or used to store items anywhere in your home. Rare Antique McMonies (MacMonies) Fishing Creel w/ Zipperd Top and Front Pouch
This auction is for the most sought after fishing creel made. This is a Very rare fishing creel hand made by W.H. McMonies(MacMonies) in Portland, Oregon in the early 1900's with the zippered top and front pouch. Known for the distinctive buckstitching on their creels. An involved process that required hand stitching with leather straps, the work of the W.H. McMonies Company exemplifies the true beauty of the leather bound fishing creel. The first to incorporate zippers into the lids, replacing the traditional buckled strap, as in this model 80(I believe, although it is not marked) creel, they also utilized the zipper on the front leather pouches on their high grade models. With distinctive"snake" pattern embossing in both the half leather lid and front pocket, and fine French weave in original color(most McMonies are found ... morein red, green or brown) this creel is in great condition, with the exception of a small area with a break to the reeds by the opening in the top(see pic) and wear to the front leather, The reverse retains the original rare"MACMONIES HAND MADE PORTLAND. ORE. metal plate. McMonies is the correct spelling of the company. A typo was made on a batch of the name badges. Rather than re-order correctly spelled badges, they used up the misspelled badges on creels until they were gone. It has great patina and both zippers are in excellent condition. The auction also includes the original Tooled buckskin leather shoulder strap. One of the small straps has broken and could be easily replaced. An estate sale find. Possibly handmade vintage basket for fishing or however you'd like to use it. Gorgeous basket is in excellent condition for its age, has brass feet, leather lid and trim, rope handles, brass latch and more. Please see all pictures. There is a piece of leather that goes around the top edge of the rope straps that needs to be reattached. Measures approximately 9" high by 13" wide and 8" in depth. The straps hang about 10" long. What a wonderful find for your basket collection or to take fishing. This item is NOT all beaten up or smashed like some older baskets. Shipping cost includes insurance.

This is an antique wicker fishing creel that shows no breaks in the weave. It is from the early 1900's and has no markers or labels. The lid is firmly attached with wicker and it has the original fish mootif turnkey latch which is in very good condition. It is approximately 13" wide by 9" high by 6" deep. The creel is in very good condition. But does not have its original leather carrying harness.
