It's in great pristine condition with just enough wear to give it wonderful character. These split willow creels were made in Japan for the American Tackle Shops from 1900 thru 1950's as were the creel baskets imported by the famous Oregon Creel makers to leather. This creel would display beautifully in the man cave. Home, cabin or lodge. I inspected the creel basket and could not find any broken willow nor broken or missing thread stitching. Look close at the shine of the basket in the photos. The lid hinge is intact. No breaks in the leather. There is patina and dust on/in the basket and shoulder strap. Pocketed Fishing Creel w/ leather trim and tooled leather harness
Vintage fishing creel measuring approximately 12" long by 6 1/2" wide and about 6 1/2" tall(excluding the handle) Made of woven wicker with stitched leather trim and accents. A front leather pouch and leather loops for hanging on a belt. I am guessing this one dates to the early or late 50's. This creel must have gotten wet in it's day because the leather is VERY STIFF. I tried to mink oil it to soften it up. But with no avail. Because the creel has stiff leather all over it is very fragile and the top of the creel and pocket should not be opened. However. This would be a wonderful addition for a fly fishing enthusiast or lovely décor for the"man cave" cabin or collector's room. Besides the stiff leather. The strap on top is missing the very tiny tip of it, the handle is detached on one end and a ... moresingle stitch is missing on the back(please see pictures for all of the defects)

Here is a nice old fishing creel fresh from a Wyoming estate. Inside are several unopened(and a couple open) packs of snelled hooks and 11 flies still on the card. Never used. I'll send those along with the creel. I believe this is one of the British Hong Kong made creels which I've seen before; nicely woven with leather fittings and a shoulder strap with the cross-body harness all intact. We dressed the leather parts with mink oil to restore some softness to the leather; this poor thing has been in someone's storage shed for a long while. Everything looks good; the front pouch flap is still quite stiff but has a buckle closure and can be used. The creel is 16 1/2" long. 6" high at the front, rising to 7" at the back. This is a very nice clean split willow fishing creel with leather reinforcements and harness. There is no breakage in the willow. And it is still in useable condition. This creel is from Portland. Oregon, but I'm not sure of the maker. There are no markings that would indicate maker or time of manufacture. Since the front closure strap was missing when I found the creel. I have replaced this piece. I also replaced the leather tab that holds the buckle for the lid strap closure. But retained the original buckle. There is some cracking on the leather straps of the harness. But it is still strong enough to use. All the leather has been conditioned with good quality leather conditioner. It measures approximately 9" tall at the tallest point. The top measures 12" across and it is 15" in width at the bottom. It measures approx. 15" x 10" x 5" Even though there are some problems with it, like the hook for the clasp having fallen off and the owner replacing it with a hook fashioned from wire in order to keep using the creel, and one side of the stitching of the tackle pocket having come out, the problems have come from real functional use and demonstrate the creel's"bona fides" as a trusted piece of equipment. Here is a Genuine Vintage Belgium made creel. Stamped"Belgium" on the bottom. A sturdy and well made classic creel using whole willow, as shown in the collectors book"The Art of the Creel" This example measures 13 inches along the bottom, back height 9 inches, and front 6 1/2 inches. Creel lid has the distinctive antique sliding wood closure. It is intact and in excellent condition and includes the leather harness with green canvas strap. This is from my own private collection. Vintage 1950's ORVIS Whole Wicker Fishing Creel with Leather Harness~Excellent!
Vintage mid-20th century fishing creel that was produced exclusively for the famous Sporting Goods Company in Vermont"Orvis" This whole wicker. Center hole creel was in their 1950's catalog. It retains all its original wicker construction, lid hinges and front leather closing strap. It does have a leather and canvas harness found with it. Harnesses were"after market" purchases as an accessory item. The closing strap and buckle are still intact but leather shows wear. This creel model can be seen in the collectors book"The Art of the Creel" The creel has original Makers Stamp No. P9871 on bottom and behind leather strap. It measures approximately 14" across, 6 1/2" front to back and 8 1/2" high. It has a beautiful woven"overlap" top lid design with a turn of the century center hole ... moreconfiguration. Antique Wicker& Leather Fly Fishing Creel Basket with Pouch. Handle and Harness/Straps. Width: 7" Height: 6" Length: 15" The poor basket is in need of a good cleaning. The leather is good. Some areas on the strap are very stiff and should be conditioned. I was going to take it to the leather shop to have it cleaned and conditioned but that will be up to the new owner. The front pouch buckle is detached. It will be on the inside of the basket. For the age they seemed to have taken care of it. Items sold as is. We obtained this from an estate sale. Basket weight is 1.10 pounds.

BEAUTIFUL VINTAGE LEATHER Whole Rattan Wicker FISHING CREEL w/ LEATHER HARNESS!!
This auction is for a Vintage Leather Whole Rattan Wicker Fishing Basket Creel. This creel is a size 4 which is a 15" creel. It measures 15" across the bottom. 9 1/2" back height, 8" depth and 8" front height. It was made with a heavy saddle leather on a solid woven rattan wicker. The saddle leather on back actually wraps around the corners for added stability(small slit corner leather in picture# 6) and the back was entirely hand stitched. It still has the leather hand strap attached on back. All original hardware and leather in place nothing has been changed. Has the original matching leather harness totally still intact with all the buckles and hardware present and working. The lid opens and closes just fine with original buckle and strap in place. The strap does show small slit towards tip picture#8 but it has ... morenot gone thru back, I have not closed the strap onto the buckle in order not to put any stress on it. The last two pictures shows a rattan loop on the bottom, apparently, the harness went through two loops, as you can see one of the rattan loops is missing. The tightly woven rattan wicker is intact with no breakage and the leather shows age which adds character to such a great vintage piece. The creel is in very good vintage condition and"built like a horse" Whoa! if it could only speak! The photos show exactly what you're getting. Highly collectible it will make an excellent addition to your collection. This is from my own personal private collection. Vintage used fishing creel. Creel has a leather strap with some black electrical tape around the one end. end must be loose. I didn't take tape off) Also has another strap connected to the big strap with a clip on the end, both straps are leather. Creel has leather trim on the outside and a yellow wire attached on the top, I am not sure what that is for. Buckle works on the front. Creel measures 15 long x 8 tall x 8 deep. It is nice used vintage condition. Would make nice wall decor or for a man cave.
