Vintage Antique Leather Split Woven Willow Wicker Fly Fishing Creel Basket VGC
Up for auction is a very nice split willow and leather fishing creel from early 1900's. The only real issue I see with this piece is the leather closure strap is broke. Although it is present and will be included for possible repair. Otherwise the basket is tight with little to no damage. The leather on the rest of the creel looks to be in very good condition as well. Slight discoloration inside on the bottom which just gives it credibility. Good luck.

It is in Amazing Condition- a couple of light stains to the leather but otherwise perfect! Lots of Great Photos to Confirm the Condition! The willow weave is tight and without flaw or damage. The leather is in Great Condition- no tears, rips or cuts of any kind, just the previously mentioned light staining in spots. The Creel is marked on the bottom- 15 MADE IN JAPAN. It measures 13 inches by 8.5 inches by 5.5 inches. The creel itself is in very good condition. A little dirty. The leather straps are dry and brittle and broken. This is a good usable item but it would best serve as a fishing lodge décor item. The creel measures approximately 14-1/2” across the bottom. 6” wide at base and 8” tall at the back. The condition of the creel is very good to near excellent. It shows a rich patina and has only one strand of willow that has broken. The thin leather straps that latch the lid to the creel and the straps that hold the shoulder strap on are old. Have some breakage and are bridle. This would not be expensive to replace if one so desired but it would be better off left as authentic to the item. VINTAGE FISHING CREEL TIGHTLY WOVEN SPLIT WILLOW c1930 WITH HAND WRITTEN NOTE This is a very nice OLD- almost antique- vintage(c.1920's) tightly woven. Split willow creel using the French weave technique. It has its original leather/metal closing strap/clasp and strap. This old creel is in good condition considering its age. It is approximately 12 inches wide at the base. 9 inches wide at the top, 5 inches deep and 7 inches high at the back. This creel was most likely sized for a woman/child. There is wonderful provenance in the hand written note found in the creel. Which states that the creel was used by Tom Moore of Saco Maine while fishing with his Grandfather in the 1930s. This note. I believe, was written later to document the history of the creel. This vintage creel has been well used and therefore has some condition issues consistent ... morewith age. This is a Great Vintage looking split willow also called French weave fly fishing creel from the 1940's era. It has leather trim and a leather pouch with two snaps and readable 9" ruler. It has developed a nice patina over the years. The leather straps and harness are still intact and are in a good vintage condition. Great decorator piece to show with your fishing collectibles. Picture#9 shows the right snap is off of the inside leather pouch but is connected to outside flap and shows well. Up for auction is this very nice 1950s vintage split willow fly fishing creel. It has leather trim and a rare silverplate fish design on the strap. The creel is in very good used condition. The very end of strap is missing a peace of leather as you can see in the pictures. The little round hook in back is came apart but can easily be fixed. It is marked Japan. I will include the harness but it is broke as you can also see by the pictures.

The old fellow from whom I bought the creel told me that there had been a lot of fish in this creel over the years. There are some holes in the bottom of the creel(see 8th photo) and there are some breaks in the willow in the sides and top. The strap and buckle to latch the lid are missing. Vintage Fishing Creel - Split Willow and Leather Trim with Leather Strap
This old creel belonged to my father and I remember many fine days fishing with him years ago in California's High Sierras. He always wanted a larger size creel and this one filled the bill. It measures 17 1/2" by 6" at the bottom and the lid is 15" by 8" It's about 9" deep inside. It's in pretty decent condition but the leather lid strap was broken and field repaired and the leather holding the buckle has torn away(still have it inside the creel) The leather strip on the bottom is stamped"Compac- made in Japan"

Offered here is a vintage split willow and leather RED HEAD brand wicker fishing creel. It is loaded with character and rustic beauty with a beautifully aged patina. This creel is solid and sturdy. The stitched leather edging has a wonderful warmth and character and the thicker harness(cross body) strap has a Red Head brand. Chicago, Illinois-with a duck as a makers mark. This neat American made angler's accessory was an essential piece of equipment for the early 1930’s-1940’s fly fisherman. CONDITION: As mentioned in the condition description.
