Vintage Fishing Creel tight weave - Antique - fishing basket - home decor - OLD
This creel came from the collection of a wealthy sportsman's private game ranch home/cabin. This is a wonderful pre-owned vintage fishing creel. It appears to be very old and has definitely seen better days. The bottom portions of the basket are very sound. The lid is more aged and shows some breakage of weave. But for its age is rather good. Please see pictures. The latch is missing. The leather strap is included but is very weak and broken in a few pieces. It was in and comes from a smoke free home. This is a Great Vintage looking split willow also called French weave fly fishing creel from the 1940's era. It has leather trim and a leather pouch with two snaps and readable 9" ruler. It has developed a nice patina over the years. The leather straps and harness are still intact and are in a good vintage condition. Great decorator piece to show with your fishing collectibles. Picture#9 shows the right snap is off of the inside leather pouch but is connected to outside flap and shows well. Last two pictures are from the book titled"The Art of the Creel" and shows a similar picture of this type of creel. Measures 15" wide x 8" high x 6-1/2" depth. Large antique fishing creel from the late 1800's- turn of the century. Made from SPLIT WILLOW with the FRENCH WEAVE style. Nice leather and canvas shoulder strap/harness(although dirty) MEASUREMENTS: 14 1/2" long x 9 1/2 high x 5 1/2" deep As mentioned above. This creel is in excellent vintage condition(dirty and aging to the leather, canvas and front hinge) with only a tiny break in one of the lid hinges. This is a high-quality split-willow and leather french weave creel with full leather harness and tackle pocket still attached. Top-of-the-line when it was created. It measures approx. 15" x 10" x 5" Even though there are some problems with it, like the hook for the clasp having fallen off and the owner replacing it with a hook fashioned from wire in order to keep using the creel, and one side of the stitching of the tackle pocket having come out, the problems have come from real functional use and demonstrate the creel's"bona fides" as a trusted piece of equipment. At this point, it has earned the right to retire to the pastures of display, rather than any further use. Up for auction is an early wicker(split willow) weave fly fisherman's fishing creel basket. Complete with original working shoulder straps and leather carry handle. Condition: Shows years of wear and use with wonderful old Patina. No holes. There is dried splitting or small tears on the 2 side edges of the leather holding the cover on. The leather strap for closing is there but the buckle or snap for keeping it closed is missing. The 2 small tie leather straps on the inside cover are broken and the cover closes crooked sometimes. No holes or breaks in the wicker weave on top. Sides, back or bottom. A few broken weaves or splits found only on the inside of cover. The leather carry handle is strong and fastened on very well. It does shows some loose stitches on the sides showing the weave rope inside. Posting- Large antique fishing creel- from the early 1900's. Possibly 1890's. Made from SPLIT WILLOW with the FRENCH WEAVE style. Condition- leather on front clasp is rotted. Rear hinges held by wire tied. Creel is strong and can still be used or for a fishing enthusiast. Some damage around the hole in the lid. Measures about 14"x8"x6" The front leather strap has fallen off and is located inside the basket now. Vintage Basket Weave Large Fishing Creel Faux Leather Back Strap Handle
This is a large basket weave fishing creel. The strapping and shoulder harness is composed of black faux leather. The creel has a built in rear handle for carrying. It does show minor wear from age and handling. The basket measures approximately 16 3/4" tall. 13" wide and 9" deep. This was an estate sale find and it had been used for storage of craft items. It has a 1" basket strip along the top with stamped fish outlines. It has two painted wood fish figures at the basket latch area. Contact me with any questions. Thanks for looking.
