Vintage Antique Leather Split Woven Willow Wicker Fly Fishing Creel Basket VGC
Up for auction is a very nice split willow and leather fishing creel from early 1900's. The only real issue I see with this piece is the leather closure strap is broke. Although it is present and will be included for possible repair. Otherwise the basket is tight with little to no damage. The leather on the rest of the creel looks to be in very good condition as well. Slight discoloration inside on the bottom which just gives it credibility. Good luck.

This creel came from the collection of a wealthy sportsman's private game ranch home/cabin. This is a wonderful pre-owned vintage fishing creel. It appears to be very old and has definitely seen better days. The bottom portions of the basket are very sound. The lid is more aged and shows some breakage of weave. But for its age is rather good. Please see pictures. The latch is missing. The leather strap is included but is very weak and broken in a few pieces. It was in and comes from a smoke free home. Vintage Wicker Fishing Creel Basket w/ Tackle This is a very nice fishing basket and all the gear pictured comes with it. It measures: 9" high x 11" wide x 6 1/4" deep. It is in very good condition. Solid& sturdy. The basket closure strap is a fish head& body. The head has'PAT 66289' on it. There are a few broken strands/connectors. That hold the lid on to its rim, see pictures. Also a few broken strands/connectors. On the basket part, holding the basket to the rim. The 2 leather straps holding the lid to the basket are good. The basket weveing is very tight and strong. It comes with leather straps and metal closer works well. Tail is off fish body but is included. As is all the tackle pictured. This auction features a Vintage Wicker with Leather trim Fishing Creel. I don't know the age of this basket. Looks to be fairly old to me. The basket is primarily wicker with leather trim and a canvas shoulder strap. The shoulder strap does not connect to one side, bit is present. The leather does have some dark marks and is cracked in several places. Please check out the photos. The buckle over the top will not hold since leather can been cut short. The top wants to stay open but I think can be trained to stay closed again. The handle has significant wear and the leather has worn off in spots. But an old leather belt could be a great replacement.The metal buckle and leather strap has deteriorated and rusted. The creel itself is in excellent condition with no functional damage to the wicker. The closure device works fine, rear hinges rigged with spun thin copper or brass. 12 x 5 x 7 maximum dimensions The net is in similar condition with some of the threads of the netting broken and not usable. Rare Antique Vintage Fishing Creel Wicker Leather Trout Fishing Basket Nice One
Up for auction is a very old fishing creel. There is a anchor mark on the brass buckle and something stamped into the strap but I can't read it. It is 6.5" tall and 9" wide at the base. Leather is in very good condition. There is on break in the wicker on the back going around the frame. Most of the brass and rivets are greening or oxidizing. Beautiful piece for use or display.

Antique Split Willow Fishing Creel Basket Leather Hinges
This antiques fishing creel has a dark patina that has come from years of use. It is a fine tightly-weaved split-willow basket fastened to an interestingly shaped bottom. The back side of the bottom has a nice curve to it. It measures 11" wide x 7.5" deep x 9" high.The hinges and the closure are both leather. The closure works like this: the leather strap goes over a wire loop and then the clip fastens through the loop. This is a primitive arrangement but I cannot see that there ever was any other closure. It has one break in one piece of the willow on the top edge of one side as shown in the pictures. It in no way diminishes the looks of this creel. This would make a wonderful decorating piece filled with flowers. Dishtowels, wash cloths, etc or used to store items anywhere in your home. This is a vintage. Possible antique, fishing creel. At one time. It had a wicker loop for the wooden dowel latch and this is no longer intact and will have to be fixed. It has a rope shoulder strap. There are a couple bent. Broken or missing reeds on the lid, but the body of the basket is in very nice condition. Would be perfect as is for lodge decor or with a floral or greenery arrangement inside, the small flaws in lid would not be visible and you would not need to use the latch. Measures about 11 1/2 x 5 inches on the bottom and is about 6 inches tall. The rope is plenty long enough for a shoulder strap with a 19 inch drop. This old fishing basket is a larger one.16" long and 9" high, 5" deep without the leather pocket. There is hand sewing on it, with leather trim. It looks to be very old and is in rough condition in places, as shown in my pictures. From the estate of an Air Force Officer. There was stuff from all over the world. He was a military officer who was in the Occupying Forces on Okinawa Japan after WWII. I don't really know too much about this area of collectible but I will describe it to the best of my ability. It looks old. It smells old. It's pretty tight and close to usable condition. I say"close" because. it does seem like it has sort of dried out and shrunk a little here and there. The netting is still fairly pliant and flexible. I think the netting is genuine old fiber or even hair. Looks like hair under a magnifying glass to me. Maybe horsehair- The opening of the netting is an iron metal ring that is slightly rusted and pitted but not rusted through anywhere. Rare Antique Wicker Footed Fishing Creel We are not exactly sure how old this basket is. But we were told it is probably Victorian and from England. The condition of the creel is very good. The lid is attached to wicker hinges, which are intact. There is a leather strap and a small buckle to close it. The leather is thin and a bit fragile now. The metal buckle a bit rusty, but I made no attempt to clean it and rather left it untouched. The strap/buckle are still intact and usable. The wooden frame of the basket has kept its original shape.
