This creel came from the collection of a wealthy sportsman's private game ranch home/cabin. This is a wonderful pre-owned vintage fishing creel. It appears to be very old and has definitely seen better days. The bottom portions of the basket are very sound. The lid is more aged and shows some breakage of weave. But for its age is rather good. It has been used in the past and has normal wear to the wicker in the forms of scuffs and it could use a cleaning(but it does not smell bad) It is sturdy but does need a new closure. Vintage Woven fishing Basket Creel Primitive Folk Art Country Cabin decor
This is a thrift store find-not sure of the age or where it came from. But it looks like an old fishing basket or fishing creel. It has a woven handle, hinged flap and a string where it was supposed to"lock" over something that isn't there anymore. Measures 14" tall to handle x 13" wide x a little over 8" deep across the bottom. It is in pretty good condition- has some dark spots on the front flap and a few strips are broken in two, and of course some discoloration you would expect from age. I got this old wicker creel from an elderly fellow who told me he got this second hand years ago. he would use this creel when he went fishing. The leather patches and buckle are original to this creel. The leather shoulder sling was added by him and is much newer than the creel. He also added the leather strips that attach the lid to the basket. I only found one end of wicker broken. It is shown in the last pic. This creel is in overall very nice condition. It shows some fading on lower portion. And is a little dusty from being used in years past. Could still be used today, but does feel a little fragile. This is a vintage. Possible antique, fishing creel. At one time. It had a wicker loop for the wooden dowel latch and this is no longer intact and will have to be fixed. It has a rope shoulder strap. There are a couple bent. Broken or missing reeds on the lid, but the body of the basket is in very nice condition. Would be perfect as is for lodge decor or with a floral or greenery arrangement inside, the small flaws in lid would not be visible and you would not need to use the latch. Measures about 11 1/2 x 5 inches on the bottom and is about 6 inches tall. The rope is plenty long enough for a shoulder strap with a 19 inch drop. It also has a wicker wrapped handing loop/ handle on back. I acquire my items at estate sales. And unless otherwise stated should be expected in good vintage condition. These items are not new. The hook for the closure is made with a wooden carved brightly painted fish. There are two wood carved beautifully painted fish which dangle to the side on the front. The strap. THE LEATHER CARRY HANDLE HAS BROKEN OFF AT THE TOP REAR RIVETS. SOME SMALL CRACKS IN THE LID HINGE.THE SHOULDER STRAP ASSEMBLY LOOKS COMPLETE. THE SMALL LEATHER POUCH IS A LITTLE STIFF BUT OPENS AND CLOSES OK. THE TOP LID HINGE HAS A INCH RULER ON IT. SIZE AT BOTTOM IS 15" X 9" AND 12" TALL.THIS BEEN IN STORAGE FOR OVER 40 YEARS.
