There is an 8" measurement on the top for when catching your fish. The wicker is great. The leather does have some dark marks and is cracked in several places. Please check out the photos. The buckle over the top will not hold since leather can been cut short. The top wants to stay open but I think can be trained to stay closed again. The handle has significant wear and the leather has worn off in spots. Hello I have this Vintage Creel Wicker Trout Basket. I am listing this as a Decorative item. Thou the Leather and Silver clasp Does work. But I had recently broke the tail off These pics do not show this because i am having troubles with my camera, still claps but lower tail is off still have tail and the Strap seems to be all there. There is a wicker handle that seems to be coming apart I had cut this off again the oicture does not show this. Do not know much about this item, I know it is used for trout fishing. Only on the lid, under where the leather strap should be, is the wicker a little loose(shown in pic 9) The leather is also quite worn and faded. The strap that went from the lid to the main body of the basket is missing(shown in pic 5 and 6) As a result of the leather coming off the lid, the lid is slightly crooked when closed. Beautiful Antique/Vintage Fishing Creel Hand Stitched Leather Trim Wicker Basket is in Very Good Condition with one Breakage in Wicker Denoted in Rear by Left Corner. Fishing Creel has been with me for more then 2 decades on display. The fishing creel has the handle and strap missing. The metal stud that holds the handle has come out of place in the rear of basket. The buckle is missing from the front. The leather appears to have sueded over time. All the hand stitching appears to be intact except across the top left corner there is a breakage in the leather where the basket's lid closes. Above the hole top. It has several small holes or gaps in the wicker and needs some weave work in certain places(see pics) Also the top has been temporarily attached with leather as it was, but needs help. Antique Trout Fly Fishing Wicker Creel w/ Metal& Leather Fish Latch& Shoulder Strap Best age guess on this would be mid-1930’s– mid- 1950’s. This vintage trout fishing creel is made of wicker. It stands about 8 ½” tall x 13” wide at the bottom and 10” wide at the top x 5 ½” front to back. Lid has an opening for fish. Opening measures about 1 ¾” wide x 2 ¼” The creel latch is a decorative. Unique fish design consisting of a head, middle and tail made of metal(magnetic) joined by leather. The ring turn buckle, backed by a leather multi-pointed disc, is non-magnetic and might be brass. The latch is fully functional. The wicker is near perfect although old and likely brittle. The lid hinge which was also wicker has been repaired with some sort of strong twine. This creel also comes with it’s original leather and cloth ... moreshoulder strap. The leather is still somewhat flexible and the cloth strap shows little wear or damage. All in all, this is a highly desirable piece of fishing history from a by-gone era. A super item to hang in your fishing lodge or man-cave! Vintage wicker woven fishing creel. Beautiful. Old creel is probably from the 1950's. It is in good, used condition but has not been cleaned so it is dusty and the leather needs cleaning and conditioning. Complete, original shoulder strap is in good shape. Decorative leather and metal fish latch is on the front and closes nicely. The only defect to mention is that the handle ends are unraveling and will need slight repair. Please check out the photos. The closure is a fish with a metal head and tail and piece at the middle with a keyhole through which the closure goes. There is a 7" ruler pressed into the strip at the front top. Marked Made in British Hong Kong just above the ruler. Based on the age of the man we got this from we would guess the piece to be from the late 1950's or early 1960's. CONDITION: We don't' see any breaks in the wicker. The leather on the fish has a couple of light cracks where it folds over the lip of the lid. The piece could use a good cleaning. Vintage Hand Woven Wicker Fishing Creel With Canvas Strap & Wood Fish Decor
This is a Vintage Hand Woven Wicker Fishing Creel With Canvas Strap& Wood Fish Decor. The wicker is very lightly colored and accented with color trim near top and bottom all the way around to add just a touch of character. Leather straps are used for lid hinges. The hook for the closure is made with a wooden carved brightly painted fish. There are two wood carved beautifully painted fish which dangle to the side on the front. The strap. Which is approximately 14 1/2 inches long, is made with a very sturdy green army type canvas. The inside depth of the fishing creel is approximately 8 inches, width on the bottom is approximately 7 inches, and the length on the bottom is approximately 11 1/2 inches long. The opening is approximately 7 inches in width and approximately 8 1/2 inches long.
