Looks like a"A" beneath it 15" wide at base. 9 1/2" tall fresh from estate front strap buckle detached. Antique Fishing Creel 1920's McMonies Portland, Oregon 80/5
This wonderful rare creel was made in the 1920's here in Portland. Oregon. I have two of these one is my grandfathers and this one is my great uncles. This is the more detailed one. It hung in a basement since 1960 when my uncle died. Let the pictures do the talking and please ask any questions you may have. This is a top of the line quality fishing creel. The experts say this is a $3,000.00 creel. Extra fancy. Also the name of the company was McMonies- the story goes they ordered some metal tags and they were misspelled. This is a misspelled one as you can see in the pictures MacMonies. Buyers will know more about this than I do- It is a beautiful creel Good Luck on bidding. RARE PORTLAND OREGON FISHING CREEL BASKET & TACKLE - VINTAGE KNIFE, LURES ETC
Here's a very old wicker and leather creel that has a unique metal latch rather than a leather strap like many of the others I've seen. Vintage George Lawrence Co. Portland, Oregon Model 5A Split Willow Fishing Creel
Offered for auction is this vintage George Lawrence Co. Portland, Oregon Model 5A split willow fishing creel. The old fellow from whom I bought the creel told me that there had been a lot of fish in this creel over the years. There are some holes in the bottom of the creel(see 8th photo) and there are some breaks in the willow in the sides and top. The strap and buckle to latch the lid are missing. There is what looks liked dried glue in some areas around the hole in the lid. The harness has been replaced. I will be happy to combine multiple purchases for shipping when possible. Nice tooled shoulder strap, as well as same pattern tooled on all sides of body. Tooled ruler on lid will measure up to a 10" catch. Measures 16" wide, 6" deep, and 10" tall. There are a couple reeds loose/missing on bottom as seen in last picture. Leather still very supple, no cracks or damage. We found a vintage fish scaler inside, which is included. EXCELLENT LARGE KENNS CREEL- PORTLAND, OREGON MAKER - RARE
Here's an Excellent condition leathered KENNS Split Willow basket creel. Kenn McKeeman was an itinerant leather worker in and around Portland. Oregon. I don't think he ever worked for any of the Large saddleries like Lawrence or McMonies but scraped out a living making things of leather and selling them himslf. I was told he had a drinking problem which made him unemployable in the eyes of anyone who might think of hiring him. His leathered creels and his duck straps were very high quality made with very thick full grain cow hide. As Portland creel makers go his creels are among the rarest. This one measures a nice full 15 inches at its widest point and comes with a matching padded cow hide leather shoulder strap also marked KENNS. There is also an unusual McKeeman marking that I haven't seen before"K.G. McKeeman Leather ... moreMfg. that appears on the shoulder strap. It was probably made in the late 50's or so. A Very nice creel for the collector and a tough maker to find. I've been collecting creels for years and just recently realized I'm totally out of space to display them. I counted them a couple of weeks ago and find that I have over 400 of them. I guess I've got to move a few of them on down the road so my wife and I will have enough space to move around in the house a little. Of course I'm exagerating a bit but you can imagine how much space that many creels takes up. I'll list a few creels today and more periodically as my schedule permits.
