For sale we have an exceptional example of a Very Early Handmade Birch Fishing Creel. This piece is made entirely out of birch bark branches cut to size and is primitively nailed together. You can still see some of the actual white birch bark on the lid and several of the side pieces. Notice the round twig that is the outer edge of the hole on the top.awesome! The inside has a piece of what appears to be bamboo around the inner lid edge. It has obviously had several repairs but this is a very old piece of fishing gear possibly from the mid to late 19th century. I have never seen anything like it! Up for auction is a very old fishing creel. There is a anchor mark on the brass buckle and something stamped into the strap but I can't read it. It is 6.5" tall and 9" wide at the base. Leather is in very good condition. There is on break in the wicker on the back going around the frame. Most of the brass and rivets are greening or oxidizing. Beautiful piece for use or display.

It has been on display here in my home. The red& green paint appears to be original. As you couldn't paint it like this. It measures 13" wide x 18" tall x about 6.5" wide at the top. Rare Antique McMonies (MacMonies) Fishing Creel w/ Zipperd Top and Front Pouch
This auction is for the most sought after fishing creel made. This is a Very rare fishing creel hand made by W.H. McMonies(MacMonies) in Portland, Oregon in the early 1900's with the zippered top and front pouch. Known for the distinctive buckstitching on their creels. An involved process that required hand stitching with leather straps, the work of the W.H. McMonies Company exemplifies the true beauty of the leather bound fishing creel. The first to incorporate zippers into the lids, replacing the traditional buckled strap, as in this model 80(I believe, although it is not marked) creel, they also utilized the zipper on the front leather pouches on their high grade models. With distinctive"snake" pattern embossing in both the half leather lid and front pocket, and fine French weave in original color(most McMonies are found ... morein red, green or brown) this creel is in great condition, with the exception of a small area with a break to the reeds by the opening in the top(see pic) and wear to the front leather, The reverse retains the original rare"MACMONIES HAND MADE PORTLAND. ORE. metal plate. McMonies is the correct spelling of the company. A typo was made on a batch of the name badges. Rather than re-order correctly spelled badges, they used up the misspelled badges on creels until they were gone. It has great patina and both zippers are in excellent condition. The auction also includes the original Tooled buckskin leather shoulder strap. One of the small straps has broken and could be easily replaced. Rare Antique Wicker Footed Fishing Creel We are not exactly sure how old this basket is. But we were told it is probably Victorian and from England. The condition of the creel is very good. The lid is attached to wicker hinges, which are intact. There is a leather strap and a small buckle to close it. The leather is thin and a bit fragile now. RARE VINTAGE ANTIQUE VERY OLD FISHING CREEL LEATHER FABRIC STRAPS COLLECTOR ITEM
This is a willow fishing creel used by my grandfather in the early 1900's. The willow basket is pretty much intact except that the back where the lid is fastened is very fragile. The leather and fabric straps are in poor condition. The clasp is complete but has come off the basket. I looks like it could easily be repaired. It looks like the leather has come undone on one of the sides(see photo 6 and 7) The creel is quite dirty(dusty) from being stored in a garage for 60 or 70 years or more. But I have tried to clean it up a bit. It would be good for any collector of antique fishing memorabilia. The creel is 12 inches wide. 9 inches high and about 6 1/2 inches deep. Rare Antique Vintage French Metal Fishing Creel Basket ~ Handle ~ Original Paint
Wonderful rare vintage(circa early 1900s) galvanized zinc metal fishing creel from France with bale wire and wood handle. Original green paint shows age and use; no dents. Hinged lid has a metal tab that slides open to view your catch without opening the lid. Ideal for using in the fisherman's boat to hold the catch of fish. Lid has holes for air to circulate(fish can be stinky) Latch to lock the lid tightly. A fun French collectible for a shelf or table; fill with potpourri and the aroma will escape thru the lid. Oval shape measures 9 inches by 7 inches; 5.5 inches tall excluding the handle. Some surface rust and loss of paint but overall a wonderful rustic patina. Will be shipped within the USA only.

Split Wicker "RARE" French Weave Center Hole Creel (Antique)
SPLIT WICKER"RARE" CENTER HOLE"FRENCH WEAVE" CREEL You are bidding on a"RARE" antique center hole tightly weaved creel. Circa 1920's-30's. This is a pot-bellied style woven basket. It is a center hole, split willow"French weave" creel. From what I could determine from research, it was most likely made pre-WW11(1930's or earlier) there is a 10" center hole and it is a light caramel color. There is no strap included. This item has a few condition issues, has spotting, wear and dirt. The wickerwork of this piece is damaged on the front left-hand side and several places along the top of the lid(see pics) On the back right hand side there is damage to the wickerwork as well. The lid is secured with two pieces of wire and the inside is dirty from use.
