The leather does have some dark marks and is cracked in several places. Please check out the photos. The buckle over the top will not hold since leather can been cut short. The top wants to stay open but I think can be trained to stay closed again. The handle has significant wear and the leather has worn off in spots. I have for sale a vintage Fishing Creel. I have found similar examples of this creel sold by Horrocks Ibbotson Co. I believe it was made in Hong Kong. Japan. It is in used but still very good usable or decorative condition with no breaks in the weaving that I can see. The fish shape latch is complete with some rusting on the metal. The creel measures 14" across at the base and 9 3/4" across the top. All in all a very well made fishing creel. Vintage Wicker Fishing Creel Made in Japan Horrocks Ibbotson Co Fish Clasp 66289
This fishing creel came from an auction in Vermont. The bottom is stickered Uticamade made in Japan Horrocks Ibbotosn Co. The sticker is hard to make out. It is in good conditon. No bad smells, lightly used. I believe at one time the fish clasp had a tail. The clasp is marked pat 66289. The creel measures 13" long, 8" high, and 5 1/4" wide. Vintage Wicker Fishing Creel / Basket / tackle box w/ leather fish clasp, handle
This vintage Fisherman's Creel is made of wicker and has a leather/metal closing fish strap and leather hinges. The condition is excellent. There are no breaks in the wicker and the leather strap and hinges are also in great shape. This basket does not have a strap. The fish head is a little dull but I did not want to clean it in fear that I would ruin it. It measures 13" across the bottom base. 10" across the top by 5" wide, about 6 1/2" tall in back and 5" tall in front. VINTAGE FISH CREEL AND OTHER CANVAS BAGS
Up for auction is a Vintage Canvas unnamed Creel. Size is approx. 10 X 12 inches. It has a canvas strap sewn to the bag and is in very good shape. There are two zippers on the bag. The one on top for the fish compartment and one on the side for the weatherproof pocket. The plastic liner in in very good shape and I could not find any weather rot or cracks in it. Both zippers work well. The wire mesh underneath is totally intact and I could not find any holes in it. Even the leather type binding on top is not cracked or broken. The bag is dirty but in very good condition for it's age. On the other bags there are two have moon pouches that are 4 X 5 1/2 inches in the closed position. There are two cotton pads on one side of the inside pouch. They close with velcro so they can't be that old. The darker canvas bag looks military but has ... moreno numbers on it. Size of the bag is 7 1/2 X 9 inches appox. It has a button closure on the flap. The lighter colored bag has a drawstring for a closure and is 9 X 11 inches approx. Creel looks to have been used very little. Inside is very clean. Leather straps are solid and supple but could stand to be oiled. Lid is tied on with heavy cord, apparently the original owner didn't care for the original set up. Doesn't take away from the creel, gives it a folky look. The coolest thing about it is the clasp is actually shaped like a trout! Never seen one done like this before, very nice accent. Antique Old FISHING CREEL BASKET TRAP Woven Bamboo Rattan FISH NET
From the estate of an Air Force Officer. There was stuff from all over the world. He was a military officer who was in the Occupying Forces on Okinawa Japan after WWII. I don't really know too much about this area of collectible but I will describe it to the best of my ability. It looks old. It smells old. It's pretty tight and close to usable condition. I say"close" because. it does seem like it has sort of dried out and shrunk a little here and there. The netting is still fairly pliant and flexible. I think the netting is genuine old fiber or even hair. Looks like hair under a magnifying glass to me. Maybe horsehair- The opening of the netting is an iron metal ring that is slightly rusted and pitted but not rusted through anywhere. Beautiful Antique/Vintage Fishing Creel Hand Stitched Leather Trim Wicker Basket is in Very Good Condition with one Breakage in Wicker Denoted in Rear by Left Corner. Fishing Creel has been with me for more then 2 decades on display. The fishing creel has the handle and strap missing. The metal stud that holds the handle has come out of place in the rear of basket. The buckle is missing from the front. The leather appears to have sueded over time. All the hand stitching appears to be intact except across the top left corner there is a breakage in the leather where the basket's lid closes. Above the hole top. Measured across the bottom the basket is 14.5" Long x 9" High(in center of back) x 6" Wide across bottom(give or take) I don't think this gem of a fishing creel would stand up to being put back to work but it would ... moremake a Fantastic display piece.
