These were made primarily in the 1940's ... moreand 1950's. I just aquired them 3 days ago. The baskets appear all original. The exception is the shoulder strap on the basket on the left. It may not be original but its very old too. These belonged to an avid fisherman. See my other auctions for some of his bait cans and lures. Etc. The basket on the left is trimmed in reddish colored leather and has been subject to some sort of splashing. To me. It gives it more appeal. The strap used to buckle the top down is missing. I have the strap and will ship it along with the creel should the winning bidder wish to try and mend it somehow. The creel measures approx. 14 inches across by 9 inches high. The basket on the right is trimmed in brown leather and is in incredible shape. Zoom in. As I believe the baskets true condition is represented well in the photos. It is missing the buckle and some of the other leather parts are rough but it is a very sturdy basket overall and has no holes other than the one it is made to have on the top. This basket measures approx 16 inches across and 8 inches high. Both baskets have flaws but the wicker itself is in incredible shape. It has no holes or cruched corners. They both sit flat and have virtually no damage to their bottoms other than scuffs. The seller was a heavy smoker and within a few feet I can smell the smoke eminating. Because they were only in his house a few days. I suspect the smell will be temporary, but i wanted to make sure and disclose this. Vintage Antique Leather Split Woven Willow Wicker Fly Fishing Creel Basket VGC
Up for auction is a very nice split willow and leather fishing creel from early 1900's. The only real issue I see with this piece is the leather closure strap is broke. Although it is present and will be included for possible repair. Otherwise the basket is tight with little to no damage. The leather on the rest of the creel looks to be in very good condition as well. Slight discoloration inside on the bottom which just gives it credibility. Good luck.

Vintage Wicker Fishing Creel Basket w/ Tackle This is a very nice fishing basket and all the gear pictured comes with it. It measures: 9" high x 11" wide x 6 1/4" deep. It is in very good condition. Solid& sturdy. The basket closure strap is a fish head& body. The head has'PAT 66289' on it. There are a few broken strands/connectors. That hold the lid on to its rim, see pictures. Also a few broken strands/connectors. On the basket part, holding the basket to the rim. The 2 leather straps holding the lid to the basket are good. The basket weveing is very tight and strong. It comes with leather straps and metal closer works well. Tail is off fish body but is included. As is all the tackle pictured. This auction features a Vintage Wicker with Leather trim Fishing Creel. I don't know the age of this basket. Looks to be fairly old to me. The basket is primarily wicker with leather trim and a canvas shoulder strap. The shoulder strap does not connect to one side, bit is present. The leather does have some dark marks and is cracked in several places. Please check out the photos. The buckle over the top will not hold since leather can been cut short. The top wants to stay open but I think can be trained to stay closed again. The handle has significant wear and the leather has worn off in spots. Antique Split Willow Fishing Creel Basket Leather Hinges
This antiques fishing creel has a dark patina that has come from years of use. It is a fine tightly-weaved split-willow basket fastened to an interestingly shaped bottom. The back side of the bottom has a nice curve to it. It measures 11" wide x 7.5" deep x 9" high.The hinges and the closure are both leather. The closure works like this: the leather strap goes over a wire loop and then the clip fastens through the loop. This is a primitive arrangement but I cannot see that there ever was any other closure. It has one break in one piece of the willow on the top edge of one side as shown in the pictures. Has an embossed ruler along the back edge of the top for measuring your catch. No maker's mark that I can see. The end part of the strap that buckles the top closed is missing. Beautiful Antique/Vintage Fishing Creel Hand Stitched Leather Trim Wicker Basket is in Very Good Condition with one Breakage in Wicker Denoted in Rear by Left Corner. Fishing Creel has been with me for more then 2 decades on display. The fishing creel has the handle and strap missing. The metal stud that holds the handle has come out of place in the rear of basket. The buckle is missing from the front. The leather appears to have sueded over time. All the hand stitching appears to be intact except across the top left corner there is a breakage in the leather where the basket's lid closes. Above the hole top. It stands about 8 ½” tall x 13” wide at the bottom and 10” wide at the top x 5 ½” front to back. Lid has an opening for fish. Opening measures about 1 ¾” wide x 2 ¼” The creel latch is a decorative. Unique fish design consisting of a head, middle and tail made of metal(magnetic) joined by leather. The ring turn buckle, backed by a leather multi-pointed disc, is non-magnetic and might be brass. The latch is fully functional. The wicker is near perfect although old and likely brittle. The lid hinge which was also wicker has been repaired with some sort of strong twine. This creel also comes with it’s original leather and cloth ... moreshoulder strap. The leather is still somewhat flexible and the cloth strap shows little wear or damage. Vintage Antique Creel Fishing Trout/Fly Fishing Basket. The creel has lots of wear and tear. The pocket on the front is ripped and needs repair. Look like the leather was treated with oil but it is still hard. Shoulder strap off on one side. The top is a little lose. It is tied on with leather. Latch on front is broken. This is a great old creel with losts of potential. Just needs some repairs. I have tried to capture everything in the photos so please look carefully.

This is a vintage woven wicker fishing creel with leather straps. Pocket, and 9" ruler on the top marked Made in British Hong Kong. It was well-used and has some residue on the inside and a musty odor. One of the leather pieces that attaches the handle to the back is broken, so the handle is only attached at one end. The remainder of the creel is in good vintage condition with typical signs of age and use. Antique Split Willow Wicker Fishing Creel w/Leather Binders, Buckle & Strap 20's
Vintage wicker fishing creel with leather straps. Binding and buckle. There is a hole in the top to slide the fish in or to grab bait or fishing tackle. The wicker is I believe split willow and in the French weave from the 1920's it is in nice shape as is the strapping and the bindings. This is a nice vintage creel not the juke sold to day it has a real patina to it. There are some broken wicker pieces as seen in the photos. Size is 8" x 5" x 13" with a lid that is 61/2' x 11"
