Estate Find! CLARK FLY FISHING CREEL Made by Clark Saddlery pre 1927 Up for auction is a vintage. HAND-MADE CLARK fly fishing creel Made by the Clark Saddlery Co. Circa pre 1927. This creel is hard to find and considered to be one of the most sought after creels. It is clean with what appears to be an old repair on the top. It is tightly woven with hand tooled dark leather.The leather is hand tooled with a snake pattern on the creel and strap. The flap is back stamped 1-9 to measure your catch. The latch strap has a slight tear that could be repaired. There is the#2 stamped underneath the shoulder strap. It has premium-style buck stitching with no separation. The measurements are: 14 inches wide x 8 inches deep x 9 inches tall. The leather is in good but stiff condition. Needs some leather soap to condition it. Bob Geiger Wicker-Tooled Leather Trim
Offered here is a lovely hand tooled leather trim wicker creel. It was made by the late Bob Greiger of Seattle. WA. It is in excellent condition with trout, eagle head and stars embossed on both the creel and leather strap. The number 3 is embossed on the back. The creel measures 13-1/2" across the bottom and 7-1/2" high in the front and 9" in the back. As seen in the pictures, there are 2 3"x5" snap pockets(also tooled leather) on the front. I do not know the history behind this creel. I am not a collector and obtained the creel as an art piece. It truly belongs with a collector or lover of fine fishing items. NICE CLEAN EARLY BIG RIVET TOOLED LEATHER SPLIT WILLOW BASKET CREEL
Here's a nice clean condition Big Rivet tooled leather split willow basket creel. These are early 1900-1920 creels I believe to be made in San Francisco perhaps by Ellery Arms. I have five or six of these and have seen a number of others but never a marked one. The distinguishing characteristics of these are the large 9/16 inch diameter brass rivets used to mount the straps& buckle. The leather sandwich used on the handle and the lightly stamped tooling used as decoration. I have similiar creels marked Ellery Arms but have not seen one of these marked. The basket on this one hads only minor breakage and is nice and clean. The leather is very nice and while showing a little wear here and there is still nice and flexible. It's bound with tooled cow hide leather and comes with a nice padded cow hide leather shoulder strap with matching ... moretooling. It's 13 inches wide at the widest point with a flat back. Fine example of a scarce creel for the collector. I've been collecting creels for years and just recently realized I'm totally out of space to display them. I counted them a couple of weeks ago and find that I have over 400 of them. I guess I've got to move a few of them on down the road so my wife and I will have enough space to move around in the house a little. Of course I'm exagerating a bit but you can imagine how much space that many creels takes up. I'll list a few creels today and more periodically as my schedule permits. Pocketed Fishing Creel w/ leather trim and tooled leather harness
Vintage fishing creel measuring approximately 12" long by 6 1/2" wide and about 6 1/2" tall(excluding the handle) Made of woven wicker with stitched leather trim and accents. A front leather pouch and leather loops for hanging on a belt. I am guessing this one dates to the early or late 50's. This creel must have gotten wet in it's day because the leather is VERY STIFF. I tried to mink oil it to soften it up. But with no avail. Because the creel has stiff leather all over it is very fragile and the top of the creel and pocket should not be opened. However. This would be a wonderful addition for a fly fishing enthusiast or lovely décor for the"man cave" cabin or collector's room. Besides the stiff leather. This is a beautiful old fishing creel. It has a nice patina. Is hand stitched, and does have some tooled leather. Not your" Plain Jane" for sure as far as vintage creels go. It has no bad odor, no rot, the stitching and bamboo are all in good condition, especially for it's age. The shoulder strap does have one break in it(see picture) and there appears to be one small length of strap possibly missing. A beautiful specimen for decorating or collecting. The Same Model Creel Is Picture On Page 110 In The Book"The Art Of The Creel" By Hugh Chatham And Dan McClain. The Creel Marked In Two Places, Under The Strap And On The Bottom. Old Vintage Wicker Leather Trim Large Trout Fishing Creel 9" Ruler Tooled Strap
Old vintage wicker with leather trim trout fishing creel in good condition for its age. But needs repair work on the stitching, as you see pictured! Overall size is 16.75" across at the base. 6" deep and 10" tall at the back to top of handle. All original leather present. But dry, and could use conditioning( I recommend Lexol.but you may know of something better. There is not really any damage other than the stitching coming undone.please see pictures) The strap on the front is damaged and broken from use at the center hole. The back shoulder strap. Appears to be an add on, or replacement, as it has leather tooling/stamp work. I can easily make out an old 9" ruler to measure your trout on the lid in the back. This came from my family so I know it is old. Somewhere between 1920& 1940 is my best guess.
