SUPER! Near Mint Condition Vintage Split Willow& Leather Fly Fishing Trout Creel. Found in Bozeman. Montana one of the centers of Blue Ribbon Trout Fishing in the World! It is in Amazing Condition- a couple of light stains to the leather but otherwise perfect! Lots of Great Photos to Confirm the Condition! The willow weave is tight and without flaw or damage. The leather is in Great Condition- no tears, rips or cuts of any kind, just the previously mentioned light staining in spots. The Creel is marked on the bottom- 15 MADE IN JAPAN. The Strap is also Great. It has inches marked off on the top back of the creel for measuring the catch. One nearly identical just sold for $200 on Ebay but this one is even better. This one has the small leather handle in the back top completely intact and in perfect condition whereas the other one was completely ... moremissing that part. VINTAGE ANTIQUE? WILLOW WICKER FISHING CREEL BASKET LODGE CABIN DECOR
This is a vintage. Possible antique, fishing creel. At one time. It had a wicker loop for the wooden dowel latch and this is no longer intact and will have to be fixed. It has a rope shoulder strap. There are a couple bent. Broken or missing reeds on the lid, but the body of the basket is in very nice condition. Would be perfect as is for lodge decor or with a floral or greenery arrangement inside, the small flaws in lid would not be visible and you would not need to use the latch. Measures about 11 1/2 x 5 inches on the bottom and is about 6 inches tall. The rope is plenty long enough for a shoulder strap with a 19 inch drop. It also has a wicker wrapped handing loop/ handle on back. I acquire my items at estate sales. And unless otherwise stated should be expected in good vintage condition. These items are not new. Have been used, and probably ... morein storage for an extended period of time. I do not know the histories of each item. I do not know if they were exposed to smoke or pets. I do not clean items. This creel would display beautifully in the man cave. Home, cabin or lodge. The creel basket doesn't appear to have any broken areas nor broken or missing thread stitching. Look close at the luster of the basket in the photos. The leather lid hinge has a ruler or measure imprinted along the top which is in remarkable clear readable condition. The lid hinge is intact in the leather. There is wear and patina on the leather and shoulder strap. There seems to have been an added strap to the shoulder strap missing, maybe for accessories. The wicker is I believe split willow and in the French weave from the 1920's it is in nice shape as is the strapping and the bindings. Vtg Nice Fly Fishing Leather Wicker Willow Wood-Hinged French Creel or Purse
We believe this to be a vintage French split willow. Genuine leather, wood hinged, and brass gondola/potbelly fly fishing creel. We bought this locally in the Midwest several months ago and cannot find another like it in our research. This is a very well made durable and stunning piece which is ready to be used or displayed upon arrival. This collectible fly fishing creel appears to have been very carefully taken care and possibly displayed safely in a high end collection. There are not any holes or wear in the wicker/willow. The leather, the brass, wood, or adjustable canvas strap. The creel portion measures approximately 9" high by 9" wide by 5" wide at the bottom. The canvas strap is adjustable and measures approximately 57" from end to end and 1.25" wide and is removable with brass connectors on each side. The ... moresolid piece of wood hinge measures 9" long by 1" wide and the wood is the part that could use a cleaning if desired. The center measures approximately 1.25" long by.75" wide. There are metal hooks which screw securely from the creel to the wood hinge to keep the entire piece nice and tight when opening and closing. This is something special and as far as we can see appears to be in all original condition. I have nothing to prove that was true.But I bought a lot of old traps from this guy,over the years,and found him to be honest. I looked at all of the old ebay auctions and did not find any creels similar to this.So it appears to be custom-made. The creel is 15" long.6& 3/4" front-to-back,and 8& 5/8" high. It weighs 1# 10 oz.
