Solid& sturdy. The basket closure strap is a fish head& body. The head has'PAT 66289' on it. There are a few broken strands/connectors. That hold the lid on to its rim, see pictures. Also a few broken strands/connectors. On the basket part, holding the basket to the rim. The 2 leather straps holding the lid to the basket are good. The basket weveing is very tight and strong. It comes with leather straps and metal closer works well. Tail is off fish body but is included. As is all the tackle pictured. This auction features a Vintage Wicker with Leather trim Fishing Creel. I don't know the age of this basket. Looks to be fairly old to me. The basket is primarily wicker with leather trim and a canvas shoulder strap. The shoulder strap does not connect to one side, bit is present. The leather does have some dark marks and is cracked in several places. Please check out the photos. The buckle over the top will not hold since leather can been cut short. The top wants to stay open but I think can be trained to stay closed again. The handle has significant wear and the leather has worn off in spots. I am offering an antique(1920s- 1930s) McMonies. Portland, Oregon, fishing creel strap. This is the number 6 or the number 9. I am not sure of how to read the number stamped on the strap. The leather strap is impressed with a design and is flexible but needs cleaning. The creel measures approximately ten inches tall; 13 inches across the front; and 7 1/2 inches wide. The creel measures about 16x6x7 at the widest, longest, highest points and it’s contoured so it’s both comfortable to wear and stays out of the way. It’s funny that I’m mostly a catch and releases fly fisher and yet keep picking up various creels. J This would make a great display with a period reel. These split willow creels were made in Japan for the American Tackle Shops from 1900 thru 1950's as were the creel baskets imported by the famous Oregon Creel makers to leather. This creel would display beautifully in the man cave. Home, cabin or lodge. I inspected the creel basket and could not find any broken willow nor broken or missing thread stitching. Look close at the shine of the basket in the photos. The lid hinge is intact. No breaks in the leather. There is patina and dust on/in the basket and shoulder strap. This is a vintage wicker creel. With leather hinges as pictured and a canvas strap attached(as pictured too) There are also openings in the back for another strap. It measures approx. 16" x 9" x 9-1/2 tall" It's in excellent condition, with only one*partial* break in the wicker(as pictured! and otherwise beautiful, tight weaving throughout. The stitching is in perfect shape. There is a little bit of residue, like maybe salt residue on the leather, but otherwise it's all clean. The strap drop is 22" from peak of strap to top of lid) and looks newer than the creel itself. VINTAGE CANVAS FISHING CREEL - LEATHER CLOSING STRAP - SCREEN BOTTOM
Nice old canvas fishing creel in good shape. It measures 14 inches wide by 11 inches tall. Rounded bottom with an inner pouch. The green canvas shoulder strap is solid and strong. It has a leather closing strap with a metal buckle. The leather is a little stiff but could be made pliable again easily. The screen is double stitched in place and well secured so none of your catch would slip away. About 2 1/2 inches of piping has un-stitched beneath the leather closing strap of the bags closing flap. A good example of a typical inexpensive fishing creel used in Montana in the 40's. 50's and 60's. It is in"found" condition. The buckly has a couple pins in it that look like they could be removed allowing the leather to be put back in and then closed and repined. The shoulder strap other than dry is in pretty good condition as well. The outstanding part of this creel is how good of condition the wicker is in. No breaks or ends sticking out. Vintage FISHING CREEL Great Leather Full Strap Working Buckle VERY GOOD SHAPE!
This is a vintage fishing creel with lots of leather in good shape with a good working buckle. It also has a complete strap. There are 2 places where I have found the leather was repaired so it was taken of in it's lifetime. There is a hole in basket weave next to the fish hole and that is the only hole on the creel. Some of the leather has come loose at the top and some of the stitching is missing in several spots, but the leather is loose in the one spot- at the hinge. The condition is really very good and it could still be used but probably needs retirement to save it in this great condition. We took 12 photos so you could see it all. Vintage Wicker Fish Creel, Small Size, Maybe Kids? Very Nice W/Leather Strap!!!
This is a small vintage wicker fishing creel with a leather strap. I bought it at an estate sale in New Hampshire. A woman had it hanging on her porch with dried flowers stuck in the hole. It's seen plenty of use and there is a great patina on the wicker, it is in very nice condition. The latch strap is missing, but the metal pieces are there.
