The leather is very hard and could benefit from leather conditioner if desired. Both buckles work well. There is a shoulder strap attached that is also leather and is in decent condition as it is also slightly hard. The basket is super nice. There is an 8" measurement on the top for when catching your fish. The wicker is great. It has a great lodge look and I suppose with some leather conditioner could also be used for fishing old school.

The leather does have some dark marks and is cracked in several places. Please check out the photos. The buckle over the top will not hold since leather can been cut short. The top wants to stay open but I think can be trained to stay closed again. The handle has significant wear and the leather has worn off in spots. The top flap of the basket does have a measuring ruled on the leather. Please check out the photos, I have take a lot to capture all the wear on this basket. This fishing creel came from an auction in Vermont. The bottom is stickered Uticamade made in Japan Horrocks Ibbotosn Co. The sticker is hard to make out. It is in good conditon. This vintage Fisherman's Creel is made of wicker and has a leather/metal closing fish strap and leather hinges. The condition is excellent. There are no breaks in the wicker and the leather strap and hinges are also in great shape. This basket does not have a strap. The fish head is a little dull but I did not want to clean it in fear that I would ruin it. It measures 13" across the bottom base. 10" across the top by 5" wide, about 6 1/2" tall in back and 5" tall in front. Creel looks to have been used very little. Inside is very clean. Leather straps are solid and supple but could stand to be oiled. Lid is tied on with heavy cord, apparently the original owner didn't care for the original set up. Doesn't take away from the creel, gives it a folky look. The coolest thing about it is the clasp is actually shaped like a trout! Never seen one done like this before, very nice accent. Marked Made in British Hong Kong just above the ruler. Based on the age of the man we got this from we would guess the piece to be from the late 1950's or early 1960's. The wicker is very lightly colored and accented with color trim near top and bottom all the way around to add just a touch of character. Leather straps are used for lid hinges. I spent the weekend digging through my in-laws' basement. Their family operated a bait and tackle store for almost 70 years. This was the second of my special finds. An antique/vintage fishing creel wicker and leather basket. It has a clasp which resembles a fish. I've included many pictures so you can see the good condition this piece is in. Creel is in good well used condition but still sturdy and well made. Some minor cosmetic issues and the leather on the hinges and strap needs replacing. Vintage Original Wicker Leather Fly Fishing Trout Fish Creel Basket w/Pouch This came from a massive fishing estate where everything was over 80 + years old. Not sure on the date of this item. The only markings are Made In British Hong Kong. That would make it fall in between 1841-1997 Not much help! Condition is fair: The wicker is perfect. It has all of its straps. Including the shoulder strap witch is almost always missing or broken. The leather has a tear in the top of the basket and the leather handle has some small tears from were the stitching came undone.
