EXCELLENT EARLY MARSHALL WELLS LEATHERED SPLIT WILLOW BASKET CREEL
Here's an excellent early Marshall Wells leathered split willow basket creel. I've enclosed a pic of the listing from the 1924 Marshall Wells catalog showing these creels. This one has half the top covered with leather and has a brown stained basket. The leather is super clean with no chipping or cracking and is nice and flexible. It's leathered with cow hide leather. It includes a complete Marshall Wells marked cow hide leather shoulder strap. This is about 14 inches wide and has a flat back as did most all of the baskets used on Marshall Wells creels. There has been some question about weather Marshall Wells actually leathered their own creels or just sold creels made elsewhere. Their 1927 catalog mentions the creels were built in their own factory and that was about the time they bought out John Clark Saddlery. I'm sure ... morethey then built their own creels but before that we don't know for sure. Very nice example of a tough creel to find. Would make a fine display item or could still be used. I've been collecting creels for years and just recently realized I'm totally out of space to display them. I counted them a couple of weeks ago and find that I have over 400 of them. I guess I've got to move a few of them on down the road so my wife and I will have enough space to move around in the house a little. Vintage Antique Leather Split Woven Willow Wicker Fly Fishing Creel Basket VGC
Up for auction is a very nice split willow and leather fishing creel from early 1900's. The only real issue I see with this piece is the leather closure strap is broke. Although it is present and will be included for possible repair. Otherwise the basket is tight with little to no damage. The leather on the rest of the creel looks to be in very good condition as well. Slight discoloration inside on the bottom which just gives it credibility. Good luck.

EXCELLENT LEATHERED SPLIT WILLOW BASKET POCKETED CREEL
Here's an excellent condition clean leathered split willow basket creel with front pocket. The basket is in great shape with no breakage. The leather is all in nice shape as well with no cracking or chipping. This is obviously an early copy of a George Lawrence Tillamook model creel and bears a striking resemblance in appearance and construction. It doesn't have a girdling band of leather like the Lawrence creels but the corner patches and the front pocket are dead ringers. It's made with high quality leather but the tooling isn't as deep and pronounced as the Lawrence creels. I've seen a handful of these and all appear to have been made in the late 30's. My guess is it's a Portland. Oregon maker perhaps by a Lawrence employee on the side? It includes a padded cow hide shoulder strap. It's about 14 1/2 inches ... morewide and has a curved back to fit the hip. Would make a fine display piece or a fine creel to use. SUPER! Near Mint Condition Vintage Split Willow& Leather Fly Fishing Trout Creel. Found in Bozeman. Montana one of the centers of Blue Ribbon Trout Fishing in the World! It is in Amazing Condition- a couple of light stains to the leather but otherwise perfect! Lots of Great Photos to Confirm the Condition! The willow weave is tight and without flaw or damage. The leather is in Great Condition- no tears, rips or cuts of any kind, just the previously mentioned light staining in spots. The Creel is marked on the bottom- 15 MADE IN JAPAN. The Strap is also Great. It has inches marked off on the top back of the creel for measuring the catch. One nearly identical just sold for $200 on Ebay but this one is even better. Antique Split Willow Fishing Creel Basket Leather Hinges
This antiques fishing creel has a dark patina that has come from years of use. It is a fine tightly-weaved split-willow basket fastened to an interestingly shaped bottom. The back side of the bottom has a nice curve to it. It measures 11" wide x 7.5" deep x 9" high.The hinges and the closure are both leather. The closure works like this: the leather strap goes over a wire loop and then the clip fastens through the loop. This is a primitive arrangement but I cannot see that there ever was any other closure. It has one break in one piece of the willow on the top edge of one side as shown in the pictures. It in no way diminishes the looks of this creel. This would make a wonderful decorating piece filled with flowers. Dishtowels, wash cloths, etc or used to store items anywhere in your home. It's in great pristine condition with just enough wear to give it wonderful character. These split willow creels were made in Japan for the American Tackle Shops from 1900 thru 1950's as were the creel baskets imported by the famous Oregon Creel makers to leather. This creel would display beautifully in the man cave. Home, cabin or lodge. I inspected the creel basket and could not find any broken willow nor broken or missing thread stitching. Look close at the shine of the basket in the photos. The lid hinge is intact. No breaks in the leather. There is patina and dust on/in the basket and shoulder strap. Here's an Excellent Clean George Lawrence Tillamook Model 4AP leathered pocket model split willow basket creel. These Tillamook creels were introduced in a flyer circulated by Lawrence in 1931. The basket has only one small break of a wrap on the board on the bottom but is otherwise flawless and has a nice patina. It's solid and sound and the leather is in excellent shape and is nice an flexible and is all original. It's leathered with cow hide leather and embossed with the standard square rope tooling that appeared on most Supreme and Tillamook model Lawrence creels. It includes a complete. EXCELLENT MCMONIES MODEL 6 LEATHERED SPLIT WILLOW BASKET CREEL
Here's an Excellent clean McMonies size 6 leathered split willow basket creel. These McMonies creels were beautifully leathered with heavy embossed cow hide leather- sumptuously bound like fine luggage. The company was here in Portland. Oregon and they were in direct competition with George Lawrence company and John Clark Saddlery and several others for the creel market which accounts for the excellent quality of their work. It has some slight basket breakage but only on the board on the basket bottom. The rest of the basket is perfect and retains most of it's original brown paint. It measures about 17 1/4 inches at it's widest point and is one of the largest I have seen. It's solid and sound and the leather is nice and clean and flexible all around. Has a very nice and complete matching shoulder strap. This particular example ... morewas probably made to be wholesaled and does not have standard McMonies mark as was the case with about 20% of the McMonies creels I have seen. NICE CLEAN JOHN CLARK SADDLERY LEATHERED SPLIT WILLOW BASKET CREEL
Here's a nice clean John Clark Saddlery model 5 leathered split willow basket creel. Clark was out of business by 1928 when they were purchased by Marshall Wells. It is likely this creel was made about 1925 or so. It has a very nice tight weave basket- nice and clean with only minor breakage. It's leathered with cow hide leather and embossed with two different tooling patterns as is common with these Clark creels. It comes with it's original complete tooled cow hide leather shoulder strap. This is 16 inches wide at it's widest point. Would make a fine display item or could still be used. Here's an Excellent condition leathered Meier& Frank pocketed split willow basket creel. These Meier& Frank creels were beautifully leathered with heavy embossed cow hide leather- sumptuously bound like fine luggage. These were made for Meier& Frank by A.E. Nelson company in Salem Oregon and later in Scio. Oregon. This is a very nice creel with only minor handling wear with no signs it ever had any fish in it. A great creel-it is 12 1/2"W by 8"H by app.5"D. Please take notice that I found a spot where there is some willow missing. When the lid is up look at the hinge section and you will see a small 1" where the willow is missing. Other than that small section it is mint! If I left out anything let me know.

NICE CLEAN EARLY BIG RIVET TOOLED LEATHER SPLIT WILLOW BASKET CREEL
Here's a nice clean condition Big Rivet tooled leather split willow basket creel. These are early 1900-1920 creels I believe to be made in San Francisco perhaps by Ellery Arms. I have five or six of these and have seen a number of others but never a marked one. The distinguishing characteristics of these are the large 9/16 inch diameter brass rivets used to mount the straps& buckle. The leather sandwich used on the handle and the lightly stamped tooling used as decoration. I have similiar creels marked Ellery Arms but have not seen one of these marked. The basket on this one hads only minor breakage and is nice and clean. The leather is very nice and while showing a little wear here and there is still nice and flexible. It's bound with tooled cow hide leather and comes with a nice padded cow hide leather shoulder strap with matching ... moretooling. It's 13 inches wide at the widest point with a flat back. NICE CLEAN PETERS LEATHERED SPLIT WILLOW BASKET CREEL (RARE)
E.P. Peters was an important early Portland. Oregon creel maker. He built creels and other fine leather products in Portland from the mid teens to the early 1930's. He was the first to use buck skin strips instead of linen thread to stitch the leather onto creels and the first one to put pockets on creels to store tackle in. He did quite a bit of experimentation with pocket designs and built creels with one, two and even three pockets on them. In the late 20's he went to work for McMonies and built many of the early McMonies creels including the first zipper top McMonies creels. Mr. Peters creels are among the rarest of the Oregon creel maker's creels. This one is a fairly early example and also fairly plain as Peters creels go with linen stitching and no pocket. The basket is in nice shape with only a little breakage on the bottom ... moreboard. It is 16 inches wide at it's widest point. The leather is showing some wear here and there but it's all there and is still soft and flexible. Comes with a complete cow hide leather shoulder strap. A nice example of Mr. Peter's work and a RARE item for the creel collector. I've been collecting creels for years and just recently realized I'm totally out of space to display them. NICE CLEAN EARLY 1920'S LEATHERED SPLIT WILLOW BASKET CREEL
Here's a nice clean early leathered split willow basket creel. This is not marked but is very much like a marked Farlow creel I have in my collection. It's leathered with nice thick cow hide leather. The basket has some breakage on the board on the bottom of the creel but no breakage elsewhere. It comes with a highly tooled cow hide leather shoulder strap. This was probably made in the early 20's and has a nice patina. The basket is a little over 15 inches at it's widest point. Would make a fine display item for someone's collection. I've been collecting creels for years and just recently realized I'm totally out of space to display them. I counted them a couple of weeks ago and find that I have about 500 of them. Here's an Excellent clean George Lawrence Model 3D Hazel Dell leathered split willow basket creel. These Lawrence Hazel Dell creels were only made in the late 20's and early 30's and are quite rare The basket on this one has no breakage(essentially flawless) and has a nice patina. It even still has the original basket maker's label on it having survived the Lawrence leathering process. It's solid and sound and the leather is nice and clean and flexible all around. I suspect this was never used! It's leathered with cow hide leather and has the Lawrence metal ID tag on the front. The creel comes with a complete Lawrence model 1 1/2 tooled cow hide leather shoulder strap. It's very unlikely you could ever find a nicer of these Hazel Dell creels to fit into your collection. Here's an excellent condition leathered split willow basket childs creel. This has the remnant of the original paper label indicating Seattle as it's origin. The basket has no breakage and is a nice tight weave. The leather is nice and clean with no chipping or cracking and is nice and flexible. This was made about 1960 or so. It's leathered with pig skin leather. It includes a very nice complete embossed cow hide leather shoulder strap. This was made for a child and measures a little less 12 inches at its widest point and has a curved back to fit the hip. These are quite scarce and desirable. This is a very nice clean split willow fishing creel with leather reinforcements and harness. There is no breakage in the willow. And it is still in useable condition. This creel is from Portland. Oregon, but I'm not sure of the maker. There are no markings that would indicate maker or time of manufacture. Since the front closure strap was missing when I found the creel. I have replaced this piece. I also replaced the leather tab that holds the buckle for the lid strap closure. But retained the original buckle. There is some cracking on the leather straps of the harness. But it is still strong enough to use. All the leather has been conditioned with good quality leather conditioner. It measures approximately 9" tall at the tallest point. The top measures 12" across and it is 15" in width at the bottom. Front to back measurements ... moreare 6.5" at the top and 6.75" at the bottom. This is a handsome. Clean vintage creel that would make a nice addition to a collection, or use it as a traditional fishing creel- that Zane Grey look!

This is a Great Vintage looking split willow also called French weave fly fishing creel from the 1940's era. It has leather trim and a leather pouch with two snaps and readable 9" ruler. It has developed a nice patina over the years. The leather straps and harness are still intact and are in a good vintage condition. Great decorator piece to show with your fishing collectibles. Picture#9 shows the right snap is off of the inside leather pouch but is connected to outside flap and shows well. Last two pictures are from the book titled"The Art of the Creel" and shows a similar picture of this type of creel. Measures 15" wide x 8" high x 6-1/2" depth. This is a nice old willow woven creel for it's age. Made in England with a brass decoration on lid& leather string closure with tongue part of latch strap is missing. Hinge is held on by shoe strings and some willow wrapping. Back bone of hinge is broken and piece is included, see photos. There is a dent on the front where willow is damaged and one bone is snapped yet there. The rest of the basket is in good condition and can be rebuilt. Fly fishing Creel is 11.5" long 4.25" wide 7" deep at back and 5" deep in front. Lid is 5.5" wide and 10" long. Here's a nice clean George Lawrence Supreme Model 3A leathered split willow basket creel. Prior to 1931 these Supreme model creels were marked 2.3,4,5,6, 7 for the 13 through 18 inch creels respectively. In 1931 they added an"A" so that this creel was made in 1931 or later. Judging by the basket and the construction on this creel I would say it was made post war. Maybe 1950 or so. The basket has only a couple of minor breaks and retains most of it's original brown stain. Many of these creels were made to order and you could choose from various colors of basket(natural, red, brown, green, and even blue) It's solid and sound and the leather is in nice clean shape and is nice an flexible. Large antique fishing creel from the late 1800's- turn of the century. Made from SPLIT WILLOW with the FRENCH WEAVE style. Nice leather and canvas shoulder strap/harness(although dirty) MEASUREMENTS: 14 1/2" long x 9 1/2 high x 5 1/2" deep As mentioned above. This creel is in excellent vintage condition(dirty and aging to the leather, canvas and front hinge) with only a tiny break in one of the lid hinges. Please note that there is a thin wire wrapped loosely around the hinge holes to prevent any further damage(see last photo for break and wire image) Also, some breaks in the tiny VERTICLE DECORATIVE split willow details in the front left side(see 1st photo and use zoom) A great gift or decorator item!

This is a high-quality split-willow and leather french weave creel with full leather harness and tackle pocket still attached. Top-of-the-line when it was created. It measures approx. 15" x 10" x 5" Even though there are some problems with it, like the hook for the clasp having fallen off and the owner replacing it with a hook fashioned from wire in order to keep using the creel, and one side of the stitching of the tackle pocket having come out, the problems have come from real functional use and demonstrate the creel's"bona fides" as a trusted piece of equipment. At this point, it has earned the right to retire to the pastures of display, rather than any further use. EXCELLENT EARLY ZIPPER TOP MCMONIES LEATHERED SPLIT WILLOW BASKET CREEL
Here's an Excellent early Zipper Top McMonies leathered split willow basket creel. These McMonies creels were beautifully leathered with heavy embossed cow hide leather- sumptuously bound like fine luggage. The company was here in Portland. Oregon and they were in direct competition with George Lawrence company and John Clark Saddlery and several others for the creel market which accounts for the excellent quality of their work. This one is Buck Stitched(stitched with buckskin) as was most often the case with these creels and as such is virtually indestructable. This is a beautiful example of a scarce creel! It has no basket breakage and the leather is in great shape and is soft and supple. Both zippers are in perfect shape with no holes or tears in the zipper cloth. It measures about 16 inches at it's widest point. Model#80- 5. This ... morebecame the standard size for these zipper top creels. It has a very nice and complete matching shoulder strap. This is an exceptional creel I've been collecting creels for years and just recently realized I'm totally out of space to display them. I counted them a couple of weeks ago and find that I have over 400 of them. Here's a beautifully embossed Marshall Wells? model 4 leathered split willow basket creel. I've seen five of these creels in 20 years of chasing after creels and four of them came with marked Marshall Wells shoulder straps(as this one does) None of them had any marking on the creels themselves other than the model numbers. Four of these creels were marked#4(15 inches wide) It is likely this creel was made about 1925 or so. It has a very nice tight weave basket- nice and clean with only minor breakage on the board on the bottom of the creel. It's beautifully leathered with cow hide leather and elaborately hand tooled. It comes a complete Marshall Wells tooled cow hide leather shoulder strap. Would make a fine display item or could still be used. Here's a nice clean condition leathered split willow basket creel. The basket has no breakage. The leather is nice and clean and is nice and flexible. This was made about 1955 or so. It's leathered with Pig Skin leather and includes a complete pig skin leather shoulder strap. This is about 15 inches wide at it's widest point and has a slightly curved back to fit the hip. Would make a fine display item or could still be used. I've been collecting creels for years and just recently realized I'm totally out of space to display them.
