Vintage Antique Leather Split Woven Willow Wicker Fly Fishing Creel Basket VGC
Up for auction is a very nice split willow and leather fishing creel from early 1900's. The only real issue I see with this piece is the leather closure strap is broke. Although it is present and will be included for possible repair. Otherwise the basket is tight with little to no damage. The leather on the rest of the creel looks to be in very good condition as well. Slight discoloration inside on the bottom which just gives it credibility. Good luck.

Vintage Wicker Fishing Creel Basket w/ Tackle This is a very nice fishing basket and all the gear pictured comes with it. It measures: 9" high x 11" wide x 6 1/4" deep. It is in very good condition. Solid& sturdy. The basket closure strap is a fish head& body. The head has'PAT 66289' on it. There are a few broken strands/connectors. That hold the lid on to its rim, see pictures. Also a few broken strands/connectors. On the basket part, holding the basket to the rim. The 2 leather straps holding the lid to the basket are good. The basket weveing is very tight and strong. It comes with leather straps and metal closer works well. Tail is off fish body but is included. As is all the tackle pictured. But an old leather belt could be a great replacement.The metal buckle and leather strap has deteriorated and rusted. The closure device works fine, rear hinges rigged with spun thin copper or brass. 12 x 5 x 7 maximum dimensions The net is in similar condition with some of the threads of the netting broken and not usable. Up for auction is a very old fishing creel. There is a anchor mark on the brass buckle and something stamped into the strap but I can't read it. It is 6.5" tall and 9" wide at the base. Leather is in very good condition. There is on break in the wicker on the back going around the frame. Most of the brass and rivets are greening or oxidizing. Beautiful piece for use or display.

VINTAGE ANTIQUE? WILLOW WICKER FISHING CREEL BASKET LODGE CABIN DECOR
This is a vintage. Possible antique, fishing creel. At one time. It had a wicker loop for the wooden dowel latch and this is no longer intact and will have to be fixed. It has a rope shoulder strap. There are a couple bent. Broken or missing reeds on the lid, but the body of the basket is in very nice condition. Would be perfect as is for lodge decor or with a floral or greenery arrangement inside, the small flaws in lid would not be visible and you would not need to use the latch. Measures about 11 1/2 x 5 inches on the bottom and is about 6 inches tall. The rope is plenty long enough for a shoulder strap with a 19 inch drop. It also has a wicker wrapped handing loop/ handle on back. I acquire my items at estate sales. And unless otherwise stated should be expected in good vintage condition. These items are not new. Have been used, and probably ... morein storage for an extended period of time. I do not know the histories of each item. I do not know if they were exposed to smoke or pets. I do not clean items. The shoulder strap is missing, and there is just one leather loop at the back. It is in need of leather polish, as it is stiff and was hard to get the lid down. Old antique wood. Wicker and leather material basket with hinged lid. Not sure but it resembles a sportsmen large fishing creel type basket/box. Inside is old wood, exterior is wicker and the top and straps is leather. Its very old. It appears that perhaps some of the mounting screws on latch and hinges may have been replaced at some point in time. The basket is old and has wear from age and past use. It is missing a top handle as the metal mounting knobs are there but the handle is missing. Not sure if the original handle was metal or leather or what? The box is 11 1/4" high, 12" wide and 7" deep. There is wear and some bending and fading from age but overall it is in pretty good shape. It weighs 3 pounds unpacked. Came from a very old local estate.

This is a vintage woven wicker fishing creel with leather straps. Pocket, and 9" ruler on the top marked Made in British Hong Kong. It was well-used and has some residue on the inside and a musty odor. One of the leather pieces that attaches the handle to the back is broken, so the handle is only attached at one end. The remainder of the creel is in good vintage condition with typical signs of age and use. It must be very old indeed because the lady I bought it from stated that it belongs to her grandmother who used to display it on Thanksgiving and Christmas! She told me that her grandmother use to wrap the inside with waxed paper and fill it with date squares and raisins squares throughout the holiday season! I bought this at an estate sale in Vermont, it had been hanging in a barn, the leather strap is a bit dry feeling, but the basket is in great shape with the exception of one piece that holds the lid is broken and replaced with a cable tie; the weave reminds me of an Adirondack pack basket.
