The leather does have some dark marks and is cracked in several places. Please check out the photos. The buckle over the top will not hold since leather can been cut short. The top wants to stay open but I think can be trained to stay closed again. The handle has significant wear and the leather has worn off in spots. This fishing creel came from an auction in Vermont. The bottom is stickered Uticamade made in Japan Horrocks Ibbotosn Co. The sticker is hard to make out. It is in good conditon. No bad smells, lightly used. I believe at one time the fish clasp had a tail. The clasp is marked pat 66289. The creel measures 13" long, 8" high, and 5 1/4" wide. Vintage Wicker Fishing Creel / Basket / tackle box w/ leather fish clasp, handle
This vintage Fisherman's Creel is made of wicker and has a leather/metal closing fish strap and leather hinges. The condition is excellent. There are no breaks in the wicker and the leather strap and hinges are also in great shape. This basket does not have a strap. The fish head is a little dull but I did not want to clean it in fear that I would ruin it. It measures 13" across the bottom base. 10" across the top by 5" wide, about 6 1/2" tall in back and 5" tall in front. The top hole measures approx. 1 3/4" x 1 3/4" Please see pictures for condition and any questions, please ask.

Creel looks to have been used very little. Inside is very clean. Leather straps are solid and supple but could stand to be oiled. Lid is tied on with heavy cord, apparently the original owner didn't care for the original set up. Doesn't take away from the creel, gives it a folky look. The coolest thing about it is the clasp is actually shaped like a trout! Never seen one done like this before, very nice accent. Here is a truly spectacular vintage creel most likely made in Japan in the late 1940's or early 1950's. The pictures do not do this creel justice. It is in remarkably clean condition with only a few small exceptions. The first is that there appears to be a small. The second is the leather hinges are of two colors- one light and one dark brown- They appear to be original and may have been a signature feature of the craftsman- not sure. Antique Vintage Fly Fishing Creel Wicker Woven Basket with Fish Clasp
I spent the weekend digging through my in-laws' basement. Their family operated a bait and tackle store for almost 70 years. This was the second of my special finds. An antique/vintage fishing creel wicker and leather basket. It has a clasp which resembles a fish. I've included many pictures so you can see the good condition this piece is in. I have not done anything to it as far as cleaning, etc. This is exactly as I found it. Bottom width is 11-3/4" 9" wide across top, and is approximately 7" in height. A wonderful find in my Grandmother's basement is this old fishing creel used by my Grandfather when they were first married back in the 40's she says. I am not sure how long it was stored away not in use. It is in nice condition with almost all the wicker intact. I wanted to keep it but just don't have the room to display it. It would look great in any collection of fishing memorabilia or for cabin or house decor. The leather clasp strap is a little worn out however and could use some TLC. It has dirt and old fish gunk I presume in the woven wicker that won't come out even after I cleaned it with a brush. I didn't scrub hard for fear of damaging it so I'm sure it can be cleaned better.
