Vintage Antique Leather Split Woven Willow Wicker Fly Fishing Creel Basket VGC
Up for auction is a very nice split willow and leather fishing creel from early 1900's. The only real issue I see with this piece is the leather closure strap is broke. Although it is present and will be included for possible repair. Otherwise the basket is tight with little to no damage. The leather on the rest of the creel looks to be in very good condition as well. Slight discoloration inside on the bottom which just gives it credibility. Good luck.

Antique fishing creel tightly woven willow
Attractive antique fishing creel owned by my father and dating to late 1920's early l930's as far as I can determine. It appears to be tightly woven willow and is light tan in color with some fading. The strap is leather and canvas fabric. It has a leather and metal latch which has its tip portion reglued. Size approximately 9 inches high at back x 7 inches in front. Basket width approx. 14 inches and depth is 5 inches. The basket is in nice condition with minimal defects to the willow mostly where the lid attaches to basket(some repair) Kept in a clean, smoke free home and not exposed to dirt. Estate Fresh from a Northern Michigan estate. This auction is for a vintage split willow fishing creel. It appears to be tightly woven willow and is tan in color with minimal fading. Dating to the 1920's-1930's time period. There was no strap found with this older fishing creel. But that is easily replaced, if so desired. The overall size is approximately 9 inches high at back x 7 inches in front and the basket width is approximately 14 inches. Antique Split Willow Fishing Creel Basket Leather Hinges
This antiques fishing creel has a dark patina that has come from years of use. It is a fine tightly-weaved split-willow basket fastened to an interestingly shaped bottom. The back side of the bottom has a nice curve to it. It measures 11" wide x 7.5" deep x 9" high.The hinges and the closure are both leather. The closure works like this: the leather strap goes over a wire loop and then the clip fastens through the loop. This is a primitive arrangement but I cannot see that there ever was any other closure. It has one break in one piece of the willow on the top edge of one side as shown in the pictures. It in no way diminishes the looks of this creel. This would make a wonderful decorating piece filled with flowers. Dishtowels, wash cloths, etc or used to store items anywhere in your home. VINTAGE ANTIQUE? WILLOW WICKER FISHING CREEL BASKET LODGE CABIN DECOR
This is a vintage. Possible antique, fishing creel. At one time. It had a wicker loop for the wooden dowel latch and this is no longer intact and will have to be fixed. It has a rope shoulder strap. There are a couple bent. Broken or missing reeds on the lid, but the body of the basket is in very nice condition. Would be perfect as is for lodge decor or with a floral or greenery arrangement inside, the small flaws in lid would not be visible and you would not need to use the latch. Measures about 11 1/2 x 5 inches on the bottom and is about 6 inches tall. The rope is plenty long enough for a shoulder strap with a 19 inch drop. It also has a wicker wrapped handing loop/ handle on back. I acquire my items at estate sales. And unless otherwise stated should be expected in good vintage condition. These items are not new. This is a beautiful vintage unmarked split willow creel with leather trim and a rich patina- has original front leather closure and rear carry handle. Made in Japan for the American market- circa 1920/1930. Approximately 9" tall with 15" wide base. Conditions is Very Good with very little basket damage and light to moderate leather wear. Up for Auction is a wonderful Estate Sale Find. I bought this for my grandson and then found out he was more into Space Ships at this time! This is a wonderful Vintage Willow Fishing Creel with real leather trim. It was obviously used at one time but is still in great condition. There are no holes in the wicker that I could see. I tried to take photos from all angles so you could see for yourself. The leather is in good condition. A few worn spots but no breaks in the leather, Buckle works fine. Few water spots on the one front side. but this was used to fish in streams. I was going to post the fish separately. But they go so perfectly with this creel, Perfect scale, I just couldn't separate them. They have been together a long time according to the previous owners daughter. I am guessing they are made out of fiberglass. they are very ... morelightweight. They can be removed easily if you so desire. they are attached via the hanger that you would attach the real fish you caught with. They appear to be hand painted and coated with a protective clear coating. Glass eyes. Great detail.hopefully you can see it in the photos on zoom. There are no nicks or chips on the fins and tails. They are really wonderful pieces of ART. The creel measures approx. 8 1/2" high by 14 1/2" wide(at the widest point of base) The trout are 8 1/4" 10 1/4" and 10 1/2" approximately. The condition of the creel is very good to near excellent. It shows a rich patina and has only one strand of willow that has broken. The wicker is I believe split willow and in the French weave from the 1920's it is in nice shape as is the strapping and the bindings. Split willow creel using the French weave technique. It has its original leather/metal closing strap/clasp and strap. This old creel is in good condition considering its age. It is approximately 12 inches wide at the base. 9 inches wide at the top, 5 inches deep and 7 inches high at the back. This creel was most likely sized for a woman/child. There is wonderful provenance in the hand written note found in the creel. Which states that the creel was used by Tom Moore of Saco Maine while fishing with his Grandfather in the 1930s. This note. I believe, was written later to document the history of the creel. This vintage creel has been well used and therefore has some condition issues consistent ... morewith age. This is a Great Vintage looking split willow also called French weave fly fishing creel from the 1940's era. It has leather trim and a leather pouch with two snaps and readable 9" ruler. It has developed a nice patina over the years. The leather straps and harness are still intact and are in a good vintage condition. Great decorator piece to show with your fishing collectibles. Picture#9 shows the right snap is off of the inside leather pouch but is connected to outside flap and shows well. The very end of strap is missing a peace of leather as you can see in the pictures. The little round hook in back is came apart but can easily be fixed. It is marked Japan. The old fellow from whom I bought the creel told me that there had been a lot of fish in this creel over the years. There are some holes in the bottom of the creel(see 8th photo) and there are some breaks in the willow in the sides and top. The strap and buckle to latch the lid are missing. VINTAGE WHOLE WILLOW FLY FISHING CREEL FLYFISHING FLY WALLET
Creel has a fly wallet attached. Creel measures 15" wide. these creels were often stamped with a# relevant to its size. This stamp mark is not visible. This style of creel is well documented in Hugh Chattham's book. The Art of The Creel and can be referenced there. 2 points of interest set it apart form many: its condition and the attached fly wallet. the original lid latch is complete with not breaks. All leather could use some good leather cream. Will leave that to new owner. Circa 1940's to 50's.

Vintage Fishing Creel - Split Willow and Leather Trim with Leather Strap
This old creel belonged to my father and I remember many fine days fishing with him years ago in California's High Sierras. He always wanted a larger size creel and this one filled the bill. It measures 17 1/2" by 6" at the bottom and the lid is 15" by 8" It's about 9" deep inside. It's in pretty decent condition but the leather lid strap was broken and field repaired and the leather holding the buckle has torn away(still have it inside the creel) The leather strip on the bottom is stamped"Compac- made in Japan"

Antique Fishing Creel Split Willow Basket with Canvas & Leather Shoulder Strap
This is a nice old willow woven creel for it's age. Made in England with a brass decoration on lid& leather string closure with tongue part of latch strap is missing. Hinge is held on by shoe strings and some willow wrapping. Back bone of hinge is broken and piece is included, see photos. There is a dent on the front where willow is damaged and one bone is snapped yet there. The rest of the basket is in good condition and can be rebuilt. Fly fishing Creel is 11.5" long 4.25" wide 7" deep at back and 5" deep in front. Lid is 5.5" wide and 10" long. Leather and canvas shoulder strap is in great condition with an extra leather strap with a clip on one end. Please see all photos for condition before buying this item.
