It looks like the creel was never used- no stains on inside. Has minor wear on bottom from moving around in attic. The strap stored inside was never put on. The owner was not a fisherman. Up for sale is a vintage split wicker with window fishing creel.Has a cloth and leather shoulder strap. With the second loop is missing.I am not sure of the maker of the creel itself, seems very unique, with a really nice leather and brass front clasp, turn clip that looks like a fish.Really neat, and in VERY good condition.Almost looks like there has never been a fish in it, or used.The wicker stitching with the lid and main basket seems like it might have been repaired?But I am not sure, it almost looks factory too.Please see pics.Its in mint condition, except the strap, without any big cosmetic flaws.I almost didnt think it was old because its in such good shape.Any questions please ask.Any info on this please pass along.Thanks for looking.

Vintage very rare 1950s Orvis wicker fishing creel
Up for bids with no reserve A very rare vintage Orvis wicker creel. It is in remarkable condition for its age. The original leather straps are not dried out and stiff like on most old creels. The straps are still supple and very usable. The back strap is full length for over the sholder use. The front strap and buckle work like new. This creel has not had much use and has not been stored in a damp basement or hot attic. It is a center hole as was used at the turn of the century. It is referred to as an Orvis because it was made exclusively for Orvis Sporting Goods in Vermont. It appears in the book"The Art of the Creel. It is 14 inches wide 8 1/2 inches high and 6 1/2 inches deep. It was made in the 1950s. The beautiful woven"Overlap" top lid is what makes it so distintive and rare. Handmade Orvis Bill Mackowski Black Ash Fishing Creel 2008 Fly Trout Limited
This fishing creel belonged to a collector in Western North Carolina. After researching it we spoke with Bill Mackowski via email to get detail about it and just as it says on the bottom of the creel(see pictures) He was commissioned by Orvis to make a small lot of brown(or black) ash creels and they were sold at various retail stores. Bill wrote that at the time he had never heard of one of these available for resale, that they sold out very quickly and that of course he would never offer anymore of this same series. A very cool piece of fly fishing history this creel is made from light canvas that is intended to be soaked with water to keep the fish cool. A plastic liner(still in great shape) keeps the fish moist and a plastic apron on the back of the creel keeps the fisherman dry. Strap is in very good shape. No holes anywhere other than where they should be(drain grommets in the bottom) and some great stains that are probably from fish.

Vintage mid-20th century fishing creel that was produced exclusively for the famous Sporting Goods Company in Vermont"Orvis" This whole wicker. Center hole creel was in their 1950's catalog. It retains all its original wicker construction, lid hinges and front leather closing strap. It does have a leather and canvas harness found with it. Harnesses were"after market" purchases as an accessory item. The closing strap and buckle are still intact but leather shows wear. This creel model can be seen in the collectors book"The Art of the Creel" The creel has original Makers Stamp No. P9871 on bottom and behind leather strap. It measures approximately 14" across, 6 1/2" front to back and 8 1/2" high. It has a beautiful woven"overlap" top lid design with a turn of the century center hole ... moreconfiguration.
