Vintage. Very unique, rustic metal bait box or creel. I have been told this is probably from the late 1800's and is possibly English. There is no name or manufacturers mark that I have been able to find. I do know this a very well made, old metal box probably used for live bait or it could have been used as a trout creel or could have carried fishing lures. The hinged lid on the top works very well as does the large comfortable handle. There are no holes in the unit, but it does have some marks and a few dents in the metal. Approx size is 16" long x 8" wide x 13" to the top of the handle(the box itself is about 8" tall) Weight of the box is approx 4.7 Lbs. Very unique and I have never seen another like this.

Vintage wicker fishing creel. The wicker is in outstanding condition. The leathe is a little bit dry. The buckle has separated from the leather although it looks like an easy fix. The buckly has a couple pins in it that look like they could be removed allowing the leather to be put back in and then closed and repined. The shoulder strap other than dry is in pretty good condition as well. The outstanding part of this creel is how good of condition the wicker is in. No breaks or ends sticking out. It stands about 8 ½” tall x 13” wide at the bottom and 10” wide at the top x 5 ½” front to back. Lid has an opening for fish. Opening measures about 1 ¾” wide x 2 ¼” The creel latch is a decorative. Unique fish design consisting of a head, middle and tail made of metal(magnetic) joined by leather. The ring turn buckle, backed by a leather multi-pointed disc, is non-magnetic and might be brass. The latch is fully functional. The wicker is near perfect although old and likely brittle. The lid hinge which was also wicker has been repaired with some sort of strong twine. This creel also comes with it’s original leather and cloth ... moreshoulder strap. The leather is still somewhat flexible and the cloth strap shows little wear or damage. All in all, this is a highly desirable piece of fishing history from a by-gone era. A super item to hang in your fishing lodge or man-cave! The closure is a fish with a metal head and tail and piece at the middle with a keyhole through which the closure goes. There is a 7" ruler pressed into the strip at the front top. Marked Made in British Hong Kong just above the ruler. Based on the age of the man we got this from we would guess the piece to be from the late 1950's or early 1960's. CONDITION: We don't' see any breaks in the wicker. The leather on the fish has a couple of light cracks where it folds over the lip of the lid. The piece could use a good cleaning. Offered is an excellent. Vintage woven wicker Fishing Creel. Creel has a minimum show of age-related wear and hardly any broken wicker. It has a strong leather shoulder strap with Pile padding(where it counts if you're going to use it) It has a metal adjustable buckle and a wooden slide lock on the top. It measures about 12" wide at the top and 15" wide at the bottom. It stands about 9" and is about 7" deep. All of the leather is excellent, as is the metal connectors. Vintage Japan ComPac Fishing Creel Leather Strap Plus 2 Metal Bait Boxes
Vintage fishing creel-tight weave- with leather strap plus 2 metal bait boxes. Bait boxes both have lids and clasps and drain holes in the bottom. One is a half moon shape. And one is a small box. They can fit inside the creel. The leather is a little dry in places but could be brought back with some care-this is expected when something is this old. On the bottom it is marked made in Japan and the name of the company is Com Pac. The pouch in the front has snaps. The only place I need to mention is the tab underneath where it buckles on top is broke on one side, but it is still holding the prong and as you can see, it is still able to be buckled.
