It was made in France ... moreand is so marked on the back of the spool cover. There is a number on the foot which is 641593. Cosmetically, the reel is in pretty decent shape, as are the graphics. There is a little rub on the black finish at the back of the frame and two small spots on the spool cover. Mechanically, the reel is in good working order. The action is smooth and the anti-reverse, clicking and drag mechanisms all work fine. The bail is strong. Please take a look at the enlarged photos, as they accurately depict the condition of this reel. I ship internationally with the exception of anywhere in South America. Vintage 1960s BRADY of England Halesowen Gelderburn Canvas Fishing Bag
This sale is for an older Brady of England Halesowen Gelderburn Fishing Bag. They've been making this bag since 1951. And this is one of the older ones. I believe its from the 60s. A large all-purpose fishing bag made from triple layered waterproof canvas with bridle-leather trim and brass fittings. The bag comprises a large centre compartment with zip top and two pleated front pockets with zip closure. A flat pocket runs across the full width of the outside back panel and fastens with a press stud. The leather edged flap fastens with leather straps and brass studs and will fold easily into the back pocket while fishing. The bag is carried on a wide adjustable webbing shoulder strap which is secured to the bag with wide leather reinforcements. On the reverse there is also a detachable webbing waist strap and a net ring is fixed to the ... moreside of the bag. Bag is in great shape on the outside. There is some wear on the outer canvas shell. The leather is in great shape, and the interior compartment has some discoloration that cleaning may or may not remove. Vintage Boys Fishing Reel. Wooden Strap Back, 2 1/4". Riveted Foot
This is a good example of a small Wooden Boys Fishing Reel. The reel measures 2 1/4" in diameter and has a wooden spool and back plate. The unusual thing about this reel is the amount of detail which has gone into its instruction. The reel has a steel strap back with a separate brass foot or reel seat which has been riveted to the metal of the strap back. The reel is fitted with twin winding handles which are made of brass and then painted. The locking nut is also brass. The reel does not have a ratchet. The reel spins well but could do with taking apart and oiling to improve its spin rate. There are no names on the reel. If you have any questions please get in touch.

Vintage Edge Elite, 4 1/2" Centrepin Fishing Reel.
This is an excellent example of the'Edge Elite' Centrepin or Trotting Fishing Reel. The reel measures 4 1/2" in diameter and is in excellent working order. The reel spins smoothly and there is no undue wobble on the spindle. It measures 1 5/8" from edge to edge with a spool gape of 1 1/16" which is fairly wide for a centrepin. The spool is ventilated and has its cross bar set fairly close to the rims of the spool making for a healthy line retrieve. The reel is fitted with a selective ratchet which is working effectively. If you are looking for a good reel to use then you could do a lot worse than this reel. As you can see from the bacl plate there is some loss of finish to the black coating but this is from honest use rather than abuse. The reel is a good example of its type and would not be a bad collectors piece.

Early Heatons Wooden Starback Reel. 4". Named
I have for sale a 4" named Reuben Heaton Wooden Fishing Reel with a brass Starback. The starback has the ratchet switch mounted on it. the ratchet operates smoothly and efficiently. i would guess bthat the reel is made of Walnut. It is unusual to find a reel bearing the Heaton name. Even more so when you consider the huge number of reels they made. On this occassion the name can be found on the stem leading to the reel seat. The winding handles are made of some man made material and as you can see from picture 4. The Mice have taking a liking for it and both have been nibbled. Picture 5 shows the inrerior and the two lead inserts used to balance the spin of the drum. You have probably seen hundreds of reels in this format but this one stands out from the crowb because of that name stamped on the foot.

Superb Improved Wooden Starback Reel. Heaton Latch. 4"
There is no makers name on the reel but there is little doubt it was made by an accomplished manufacturer. the attention to detail is excellent. It could have been made by Heatons. Smith& Wall or perhaps Allcocks. The reel measures 4" in diameter and the spool has a 1" gape. Rim to rim. It measures 1 7/8" This is a starback reel and has an on/off ratchet switch located on one arm of the starback. The ratchet is strong and it operates efficiently. I have called this reel the Improved model because it incorporates virtually all the devises emplyed to maintain its efficiency. Wooden reels were by the nature of the material use susceptible to warping. Especially when the wood get wet or is left to bake in the Sun. the star back was in itself a form of bracing to prevent warp across the grain. The next feature is a lining inside ... morethe rim of the back plate. originally these were brass. The brass was later replaced with aluminium, a lighter material. Then came the an metal backplate to the spool. Again, brass was used originally but was replaced with aluminium, again for lightness. The reel had a caged drum, the outer rim of which sat in a recess on the inside of the wooden spool. The spool locks onto the spindle using a 4 screw Heaton style latch. It has finely turned horn handles. The ratchet cog and the pawl are made of similar tempered steel. The pawl spring appears to be aluminium. An additional feature of this reel is that the stabilising guide on the ratchet switch. This ensures the pawl engages correctly with the cog rather than slipping to the side. This reel is a cracker and is a first class example of its type. It also works very well so would suit the person who likes to use old tackle as well as being a collectable.

An excellent example of the Elarex by Hardy Comes in its Rexine case with good leather strap There is an oiler marked'R H ROUND BIRMINGHAM' Also a wire flat head screwdriver marked'TERRYS MADE IN ENGLAND' They were with the reel when I acquired it. I have not polished the reel. As these things are easily overdone The reel winds smoothly and silently. As you would expect of a high quality example of engineering.

Vintage Hardy 4 1/4" Perfect Salmon Fly Reel. Duplicated MkII Check Mechanism.
I have for sale a 4 1/4" Hardy Perfect Salmon Fly Reel with a wide spool. The reel has the Duplicated Mk II Check Mechanism. It has a smooth brass foot. Nickle silver reverse thread drum locking screw, a rim mounted tension adjuster, Ebonite handle and a rotating nickle silver line guide. The reel has at some stage been put away wet and this has caused some staining to the face of the reel as well as the two spots of corrosion to the rim which I have mentioned above. I am sure the face can be cleaned up if you wish to make it more presentable. The two bites of corrosion are shown in picture 6. Picture 7 shows another view of the area above the pillar. There remains a good depth of metal to the rim and whilst it would be folly to say those areas have not been weakened by this. They do not render the reel unusable. There is no chance of ... morethis failing under normal use. The foot has been lightly filed at one end. There is no excessive play in the reel. I would describe it as a good usable reel. Early Australian Brass& Bakelite Pivoting Fishing Reel–No Maker’s Name Hi Ebayers! I’m pleased to offer this wonderful old fishing reel. I cannot find a maker’s name but the spool measures 12 cm or nearly 5 inches across. The backplate. Spool and knobs are made of brown Bakelite and the rod mount and turning mechanism are made of brass. The reel pivots and this type of reel is mostly called a side cast. It had a ratchet but this is not working. It is in very good cosmetic condition with no chips or cracks. It weighs 660g unpacked. The spool is quite wide and would take a large amount of line.
