Polished Early Vintage - Mitchell Half Bail Fishing Reel
Mitchell Half Bail Fishing Reel. What do you do with a reel that has very little paint left on it and looks awful, POLISH IT! the red primer and what was left of the paint would not come off easily, so some remnants remain as does some of its battle scars and corrosion(cover plate) from over the years. I can not see a serial number on the foot or body only what looks like a S. I have included lot`s of photo`s so you can see the condition. It has been serviced and operates smoothly and could be used to fish with. The bail arm chrome is fairly pitted and poor. The handle is the sprung type with a twist handle. The shallow spool has the later heart shaped ratchet and aluminium base plate with no made in France on it. It is a nice working and complete half bail reel. Is a 1930's GEORGE CURL FISHING REEL that is an early hand made version in SOLID BRASS! The tolerances are very fine between spool and backing plate, BAKELITE handle has characteristic wear from age, and the reel has all the wonderful traits of a genuine hand made Curl reel, see close ups. It has line check option, and a sweet sounding crisp drag that you will never hear like this. It would wake you from any sleep if a big mulloway took your bait, guaranteed! Made locally here in Mt. Gambier, he's reels have become the prize in collections due to their supreme quality make. George was a genius, and worked at the Varcoe Foundry, making many of the historic plaques on monuments around the city. To the best of my knowledge, it was made in the late 1930s. Pictures show condition well, as GOOD with one brass nut missing from spool. Vintage Shakespeare Super Condex Trout Fishing Reel 3.5" x 1" Plus Line.

Vintage Victorian Brass Crank Wind Fishing Reel. Serpentine Handle
This is a lovely old Fishing Reel which dates back to early Victorian days. It is a large brass crank wind reel measuring 3 3/4" in diameter and has a huge reel seat which is evidence of its age. The reel has a gape of 1 3/4" and has a Serpentine Crank Handle. The handle has a white winding handle which is made of a natural material. This has a crack as stated. The foot or reel seat is attached to the reel by two rivets. One into each cross bar. There are a further 4 crass bars to support the reel. As you can see the reel was at one time lacquered to a bright burnished finish but it has. At sometime during its life been either submerged in water or part wrapped in a damp cloth. I have not tried to clean the reel, you see it as I received it. It has a horse hair or old silk line. If you have any questions please get in touch.

Vintage 1920S - 30S Lees Side Cast, Brass Star Back Wooden Fishing Reel
Here is an Australian wooden side cast reel made by Billy Lee in Brisbane. Probably during the 1930s. the spool is 3 1/4" diameter. The backing plate is 4" diameter. Silky Oak spool with a Red Cedar backing- the brass star is marked" LEES" The reel is in superb condition& appears to have never been used. I don't see any line marks or nics/ scratches to the spool or backing. The brass parts also appear free of any marks or knocks. The clicker may be missing its wire spring( see pic of inside please) Happy to answer any questions or send more photos! This is a true collectors reel rarely found in this condition.Good luck!

I pulled it apart so you could see the inside of the reel. There are no bits missing. But there is some plating damage. Inside it says it is made by M.B. Wragg Gardenvale Vic. Australia. It is the narrow fly fishing. 4" reel type. The Bakelite looks to be in exceptional condition. Postage is $8.50 Australia wide. Vintage Mitchell Fishing Reel Half Bail Consists of 2nd & 3rd Very Rare
a very rare Mitchell(Pre)300 Reel 2nd or 3rd version half bail is this a transition model reel I am not sure it appears to consists of 2nd/3rd Version reel parts it does show some wear it has paint loss marks and rubs to the cases foot leg spool and rotor. Worn bail wire chrome it does show some mechanical wear and operates roughly while winding the bail wire trips fine and the a/r works fine, it has what appears to be a 3rd version case with serial number 5 on the foot and rotor a 2nd version side cover plate and 2nd version internal gears the reel looks a treat and they are still hard to find in this condition i think it would make a very nice addition to a Mitchell reel collection please look closely at all 11 pictures as they form a part of the reels overall condition. please note postage insurance is at additional cost On 09-Feb-15 at ... more19:34:44 AEDST.
